The Butler Celebrates 10 Years With A Fresh New Look & Mexican-Seafood Fare

Eat, Restaurants, Sydney / 8 October 2024

After solidifying its reputation as a must-visit dining destination over the past decade, The Butler in Potts Point is unveiling a fresh refurb and menu inspired by Mexico, with a focus on seafood.

With stunning panoramic terrace views and a history of hosting A-listers like Margot Robbie and Andrew Garfield, The Butler in Potts Point has established itself as an iconic dining destination over the past decade. Owned by Applejack Hospitality—known for delivering standout Sydney venues like Rafi in North Sydney, the Taphouse refurb in Darlinghurst, and the URBNSURF restaurant in Olympic Park—they’ve consistently shown their ability to evolve. To celebrate The Butler’s 10th anniversary, they’ve refreshed the space, revamped the menu, and announced an exciting charity event with Wayside Chapel.

Potts Point’s dining scene has been buzzing recently, with the opening of Teddy by the Ezra team and Parlar. The Butler’s new look only adds to the excitement, and we’re thrilled to put it back at the top of our dining list!

Head Chef Amber Doig has crafted a seafood-focused menu featuring Australian and New Zealand produce, blending flavours from Mexico City’s Polanco and Roma Norte districts. Menu highlights include “divorced fish”—butterflied NZ pink snapper divorciados with red and green salsas, masa tempura Humpty Doo barramundi tacos with slaw, verde, and salsa ravigote, and confit duck carnitas (with $1 from each duck dish supporting Wayside Chapel, a Potts Point charity that combats homelessness and social isolation). Sustainability is also front of mind, with The Butler’s desserts changing seasonally, so be sure to ask your server what’s on offer.

The drinks list complements the new menu perfectly, featuring world-class cocktails and a wine selection that showcases both local and international options. We recommend starting with the Butler Paloma, made with Olmeca Altos Blanco Tequila, house grapefruit soda, and citrus.

In tandem with the refreshed menu, The Butler’s interior has also been updated. The new design exudes Sydney sophistication with a touch of Mexico, inspired by Mexico City’s Polanco district. The sun-drenched terrace, adorned with lush greenery, offers some of the best restaurant views in the city. The exterior will also feature artwork by renowned WA artist Amok Island, set to be revealed on the 10th of October.

The Garden Gala

The Butler and Wayside Chapel (celebrating its 60th anniversary this year) will join forces to commemorate their milestones at the exclusive Garden Gala dinner on the 17th of October. The bespoke menu will showcase fresh, locally sourced ingredients from Wayside Gardens, where the charity cultivates sustainable produce. Chef Amber Doig will incorporate these garden-fresh ingredients into the dishes, allowing guests to enjoy views of the very produce that inspired their meal right from the terrace.
