Get your Cantonese fix at the reinvigoration of Darlinghurst’s iconic pub, Taphouse.
Sydney’s prominent hospitality group, Applejack, is expanding its collection by bringing back the iconic Taphouse pub in Darlinghurst. This move adds another venue to Applejack’s impressive list, following their recent partnership announcement with URBNSURF Sydney. The beautifully restored heritage pub is set to welcome patrons on September 13, showcasing Applejack’s dedication to preserving the essence of beloved Sydney establishments while injecting fresh life into them.
Taphouse, nestled in the heart of Sydney, is a vibrant pub driven by three main elements: Taps – offering an extensive selection of ales, Tunes – featuring beats, DJs, and live entertainment, and Chinese – highlighting delectable Cantonese cuisine. Leading the culinary experience is Head Chef Sam Ng, whose culinary journey spans Hong Kong’s vibrant food scene, including renowned establishments like Ho Lee Fook, Praya, and Stanley. Collaborating with Culinary Director Patrick Friesen, known for his outstanding work at Queen Chow, Stanley Brisbane, and Ms.G’s, they’ve curated a mouthwatering Cantonese menu.
The menu boasts dishes such as Jang’s egg noodles with crispy free-range pork belly, Chinese broccoli, and chili, as well as seasonal stir-fries featuring locally sourced organic ingredients. Classics like steamed barramundi with pickled chili and black bean, cruller prawn toast with sweet and sour sauce, and Shandong crispy skin chicken leg also grace the menu.
Taphouse maintains its original charm with timber paneling and pressed tin ceilings, augmented by warm and inviting terracotta tones and dark timber furniture. The rooftop terrace, now equipped with a fully retractable roof, exudes a fresh coastal feel with a white and blue colour palette, whitewashed furnishings, and custom white and linen umbrellas. This will be an extremely inviting atmosphere come summer!
Taphouse will be open Monday – Wednesday from 4pm – 11pm, Thursday from 4pm – 12am, Friday & Saturday from 11:30am – 1am and Sunday from 11:30am – 11pm. Find out more here.
