Experience a modern revival of Sydney’s iconic 5-star hotel, blending French elegance, art partnerships, and fine dining in the heart of the CBD.
After a $70 million top-to-bottom revamp, Sofitel Sydney Wentworth is celebrating its rebirth, just in time to mark Sofitel’s global 60th anniversary. This iconic luxury hotel, originally opened by Qantas in the 1960s as Australia’s first international 5-star accommodation, has been redesigned to blend classic jet-set glamour with cutting-edge convenience.
The vision behind the refresh was all about reimagining the ‘60s charm that first made the hotel a star-studded destination while bringing it squarely into the 21st century. Led by architecture firm FK, the hotel’s original post-war modernist style has been infused with new life, from the bronze facade to the sleek curves in the lobby and guest rooms, creating a “Modern Heritage” look that celebrates its storied past.
Stepping into the revamped entrance and lobby, visitors are greeted by luxurious design touches inspired by Sofitel’s French heritage – like a lighting installation that subtly references the brand’s iconic candlelit welcome. The space is punctuated by modern conveniences like interactive check-in stations and an online concierge app, streamlining the guest experience.
The 436 rooms and suites have been thoughtfully redesigned to reflect the property’s glamorous heritage, with curved walls and sculptural forms nodding to the ‘60s golden era. Guests can luxuriate in heritage-listed baths with bespoke Balmain amenities, enjoy room service from House Made Hospitality, or recharge with a Wellness Bag, designed for both in-room fitness or workouts at nearby landmarks.
House Made Hospitality has also created a vibrant dining and drinking precinct within the hotel, including two restaurants (tilda and Delta Rue) and two bars (bar tilda and Wentworth Bar). The all-weather Wentworth Bar on the terrace offers one of Sydney’s largest rooftop spaces, providing sweeping city views with Vietnamese-inspired bites that echo Delta Rue’s lively French-Vietnamese cuisine.
Located in Sydney’s CBD, the newly transformed Sofitel Sydney Wentworth is a hub for art, fashion, and gourmet dining, just steps from icons like the Opera House and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. For details and bookings, visit Sofitel Sydney Wentworth’s official website.
