Newcastle's Merewether Surfhouse is getting a serious glow up
Sitting right on one of the city's best beaches, the Newcastle beachfront icon has been snapped up by Ben May and Rob Domjen, the duo behind Burleigh Pavilion, Terrigal Pavilion and Palm Beach's The Joey, and will reopen as Merewether Pavilion in 2027 after a major renovation.
The Tropic, their well loved coastal dining concept, is confirmed to be part of the new lineup.
While the venue will stay open as the current Merewether Surfhouse throughout the summer, it will close from February 2027 for construction and re-open later in the year, ideally in time for next summer.
“Merewether Surfhouse is one of those opportunities that doesn’t come along very often. It’s an incredible position overlooking one of Australia’s great beaches, but what really appealed to us is the place it already holds in the community," said Ben May, co-founder of the Pavilion Venue Co.
