This Sunday, the world’s largest short film festival returns to Centennial Park. In it’s 23rd year, Tropfest is scheduled to deliver a lineup that won’t disappoint! Of the 600+ entries this year, 16 finalists from across Australia, will be featured. It all started from humble beginnings at Tropicana cafe in Darlinghurst with a crowd of 200 people who showed up to watch a short film screening. This year the festival is expected to have over 150,000 people attend.
If you can’t get down to Centennial Park don’t worry SBS 2 will be channeling all the action live across Australia.
The fun starts at 11 am followed by the showing of Trop JR, the world’s largest short film festival for kids under 15. There will also be hip hop and live music sets between 11am and 12pm for family friendly entertainment. From 5pm there is a lineup of musical acts including acoustic duo Pierce Brothers, genre-melding artist Ego, Thelma Plum and singer Elizabeth Rose. There might even be some red carpet appearances!
Tropfest 2014 will then kick off at sunset, premiering the 16 short film finalists as well as the highlight of the night, this year’s Tropest Signature of ‘MIRROR’. The festival will showcase a wide range of genres and styles such as thrillers, dramas and documentaries with comedy being the most popular genre by far this year.
Mexican street food, German-style hot dogs, and American sliders will be available on site along with a selection of beer, cider and wine. You can also pack your own picnic basket full of food and drinks.
