Eat, Sydney / 23 April 2024

Michelin stars, sizzling fire, and international flavors – Vivid Food 2024 is a feast for the senses.

The winter chill is settling in, but Sydney is about to heat things up with Vivid Sydney 2024, and Vivid Food is taking centre stage once again. This year’s program embraces the festival’s theme of “Humanity,” showcasing the power of food to connect us across cultures and continents.

Your taste buds will travel around the world with experiences featuring infamous chefs. Hailing from Brazil, Manoella Buffara, Latin America’s Best Female Chef 2022, will bring her sustainable and innovative approach to fine dining to Ploós, right on the Vivid Sydney Light Walk. Prepare to be wowed by her nine-course tasting dinners, celebrating the best of NSW produce alongside the esteemed Ploós chefs.

Vivid Chef Series takes things a step further, with local Sydney chefs teaming up with Michelin-starred talents for exclusive, never-to-be-repeated dinners. Highlights include the fusion of European flair and nostalgic British flavours when London’s Sally Abé joins forces with Billy Hannigan of The Charles Brasserie & Bar. As well as the exciting blend of Middle Eastern cuisine with global influences when AALIA’s Paul Farag collaborates with Ivan Brehm of Singapore’s Nouri. These are just a taste of the exciting pairings on offer.

Vivid Food Fire Kitchen

For a more casual and vibrant atmosphere, head to the all-new Vivid Fire Kitchen at The Goods Line. This year, the focus is on fire-based cooking, with acclaimed pitmasters and flame-focused restaurants taking centre stage. Witness live demonstrations, cooking sessions, and enjoy a global selection of flame-seared street food, from Argentinian Asado to First Nations tucker. Expect to see renowned chefs like Lennox Hastie of Firedoor and Christine Manfield alongside international talents like Texas’ Jess Pryles and LA’s Shalamar Lane. Warm up with a hearty brisket or a charred eggplant creation, all while enjoying the lively atmosphere with fire sculptures, flame throwers, and even fire drums!

Don’t miss the chance to indulge your sweet tooth at the nostalgic Messina Milk Bar, where classic chocolates and desserts are given a modern gelato twist. Or, experience the human connection fostered by food at “Plates with Purpose: A Taste of Ukraine” at Kyiv Social. This ten-course degustation promises a heartwarming and immersive experience.

This year’s diverse Vivid program highlights the rich tapestry of Sydney’s food scene and the unifying power of cuisine. Vivid Sydney 2024 will run from Friday 24th May – Saturday 15th June at various locations around Sydney. Tickets and further details can be found on the festival website here.
