The team from La Bomba will be serving boutique wines, Mediterranean-inspired eats, and seasonal cocktails at Sopra Potts Point.
It’s been just over a year since La Bomba landed in the heart of Potts Point, bringing Mediterranean-style drinks and dining to the inner city. Now, the suburb has just welcomed an exciting new venue from the same husband and wife duo Nick Stone and Aparna Gehlot with the opening of Sopra bar and restaurant.
The duo has a combined 28 years in hospitality, working at some of Australia’s top venues. Nick (ex-Mona and Hugo’s) brings creativity to the venue’s culinary offering, while Aparna (with global experience in business) has taken the reigns at the front of house.
Since opening La Bomba, the pair had been searching for the perfect spot to offer a bar-style experience to their loyal locals. With the help of the creative masterminds at Guru projects, they’ve designed a space inspired by European luxe juxtaposed with contemporary touches.
Situated at the end of Potts Point, Sopra is the perfect spot for a tipple and snack (without committing to a full meal). The menu draws inspiration from Spanish cuisine to deliver a curated selection of tapa-style shape plates. Expect hero dishes of white fish Crudo with pickled chili and tajin spice, lamb rump with cracked wheat pomegranate salad with quince aioli, Appellation Sydney rock oysters, roasted Yamba prawns, and trout caviar with Pepe Saya crème Fraiche to name a few.
As for the wine list, sommelier David Kalvo (also the sommelier for Nomad) has curated a top-notch offering to suit all tastes. The majority are Australian drops, thoughtfully selected to match the snack-style menu. Plus, there’s an exceptional seasonal cocktail list with drinks that are fruity, sour, strong, fizzy, and everything in between.
Find Sopra at Shop 4, 65 Macleay Street, Potts Point. Open Tues to Thur (4 pm to 12 am), Fri to Sat (12 pm to 12 am) and Sun (12 pm to 10 pm).
