Opening Soon: A Beachside Mexican Seafood Restaurant Is Landing In Bondi

Drink, Eat, Restaurants, Sydney / 9 November 2020

The crew behind Carbon and Sonora are bringing Calita, a new Mexican restaurant, to Bondi Beach.

For those with a love for authentic Mexican eats, you’ll be well acquainted with the Milpa Collective. Since 2017, the group has been launching top-notch Mexican-inspired venues across Sydney. Their portfolio of must-see spots includes Taquiza Bondi, Carbon Bondi Beach, La Palma Bondi Beach, and Sonora Potts Point. And now, the group is adding another top-notch venue to their ranks.

Meet Calita, the new beachfront Mexican restaurant coming to Bondi this November. This 26-seat marisqueria (seafood restaurant) is rubbing shoulders with established dining rooms including Sean’s Panorama and Bondi favourite Porch and Parlour. At Calita, expect fresh, sustainably sourced local seafood to be the star.

The offering at Calita draws inspiration from the Baja Peninsula, with a curated menu of house-made tacos, snacks, and share plates on offer. Indulge in their signature dishes including blue swimmer crab tostadas, smoked trout taco with green mango, salsa macha, coriander, and peanut salad; and Vuelve a la Vida bloody maria shellfish cocktail.

As you’d expect, the drinks’ menu at Calita’s is mezcal and tequila-based. Sip your way through small-batch, boutique spirits imported from Mexico. There’s a wide range of margaritas on offer, including classic, jalapeno, Tommy’s, and even frozen margaritas made with premium Arette tequila and fresh, seasonal fruits. Fancy a different kind of tipple? Enjoy a top-notch wine list curated by respected drinks writer and co-founder of P&V Merchants, Mike Bennie.
