Santa Monica pops up in Sydney for 6 weeks of SoCal-inspired eats and events

Events, Festivals, Sydney / 25 September 2019

Live your best LA life (without forking out for airfares) at Pier One’s Santa Monica pop up experience this spring.

The relaxed vibe of LA’s beachside city is loved by locals and visitors alike. The rolling waves, rollerblades and long balmy afternoons spent with a cocktail in hand. And if you’re dreaming of a getaway, we’ve got great news for you. From September 22nd, the luxe Pier One Sydney Harbour is playing host to a Santa Monica-inspired experience like no other. Enjoy the best bits of this iconic waterfront destination in your own backyard with a jam-packed line up of cooking demonstrations, free wellness classes, farmers’ markets plus live music sunset sessions.

The pop up activation is set to deliver a stellar culinary offering with three renowned Santa Monica chefs travelling to Oz for a series of collaborations. These exclusive dining experiences will be taking place at Pier One’s The Gantry restaurant, with three bespoke dinners ($250 pp) serving 6 courses with matching wines. Expect everything from a mouthwatering coastal-inspired menu focusing on hyper-seasonal produce to an alfresco dinner celebrating the best of Australian seafood. The traveling chefs include Josiah Citrin (two-star Michelin Chef and owner of California’s acclaimed Mélisse), Raphael Lunetta (a Top Chef judge) and Govind Armstrong (renowned for his roles in Top Chef and Iron Chef). Clearly, there’s going to be some top-notch eats on offer with this trio at the helm. We recommend you get in quick and book online as these sessions are expected to sell out.

Aside from eats, there’s plenty to keep you busy at this Santa Monica pop up. Each Wednesday morning, they’ll be hosting free waterfront Yoga and Pilates sessions on the pier to help you find your zen before kicking off your day at the office. Although sessions are free, yogis are encouraged to book online in advance to secure their spot on the mat. For those looking to get their heart rate up, their Saturday ROGA (run and yoga) challenge is a must. In collaboration with lululemon, each session will start with a 2.5km jog from Luna Park to Santa Monica at Pier One. Once you’ve worked up a sweat, chill out with a free flow class hosted by some of lululemon’s top yoga instructors.

Plus, they’ll be three bespoke certified organic Sunday Farmers Markets to explore throughout the activation. Stock up on fresh seasonal produce, local artisan bread and delicious food and stick around for a free cooking demonstration from some of Santa Monica’s acclaimed chefs. You have three sessions to choose from to enjoy these mini-markets: Sunday, September 29th plus October 6th and 13th, from 10am – 2pm.

After dark, Twilight in Santa Monica delivers a diverse line up of live music from around the globe every Friday from 4pm. Soak in the sparkling harbour views at sundown with a SoCal-inspired cocktail in-hand. What could be a better way to ease into the weekend?

To sweeten the deal, Pier One has partnered with Santa Monica Travel & Tourism, United Airlines and 7Travel to give visitors the chance to win a trip to LA’s beach city. That’s right, a free holiday could be yours. To enter, simply visit the activation, snap a pic and share on Instagram using #santamonicasydney to go into the draw.
