Get ready for Ria Pizza + Wine, opening in early November in the space currently occupied by Monopole.
Back in July, we shared some big news about one of Potts Point’s most iconic wine bars, Monopole. The institutional venue had announced it was leaving its founding location, with plans to launch a new CBD outpost in September 2020. In case you missed it, you can check out the full story here.
And we alluded to another big story at the end of this article: a new dining concept was coming to Monopole’s original Potts Point digs. Today, we’re thrilled to share which exciting new venue will be taking up residency in this iconic location.
Meet Ria Pizza + Wine, the latest venture from Brent Savage and Nick Hildebrandt (the duo behind Monopole). These co-owners have always toyed with the idea of opening their own pizza place, but had been waiting for the right time to turn their dreams into a reality.
As co-owner and chef Savage explains, “when we decided to relocate Monopole to the CBD, we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to launch the concept in Potts Point.”
But unlike many pizza joints, Ria Pizza + Wine will be slinging a new kind of pie: an ‘Australian pizza joint’. Unlike Italian or New York-style pizzas, Ria’s sourdough pizza bases will be crisp and loaded with produce and premium, seasonal ingredients sourced from Savage’s network of local growers and suppliers.
And as the name would suggest, Ria’s wine list will be one to watch, expected to showcase drops from Hildebrandt’s favourite producers. As for the venue, Ria’s will be a 50-seat restaurant with a casual, fun atmosphere perfect for drinks, snacks and dinner (walk-ins always welcome). Ria’s plans to be open for both dinner and takeaway once the venue launches in early November 2020.
Plus, throughout the month of September, Monopole Potts Point will be bringing back classic dishes from the past 8 years. Expect nostalgic Monopole classics such as duck with cherry wood oil and beetroot; and beef pastrami, goats curd, pickles and rye.
