Get ready, Sydney. Melbourne’s favourite Japanese eatery is joining forces with Messina for an unmissable pop-up event.
If we had to pick two of our favourite things, it would have to be gelato and Japanese. However, rarely have we thought of putting these two experiences together. But this week, an exciting limited edition pop-up is set to hit Sydney shores for two days only. And this collaboration is set to be one of this brand’s best yet.
As part of the ‘Messina Eats’ collaboration series, Messina Eats Mr. Miyagi 2.0 brings this iconic Melbourne institution to Sydney with a series of limited edition fusion foods and desserts. Taking place at Messina HQ in Rosebery from November 29th to November 30th, the Messina crew have joined forces with Mr. Miyagi for their second time, bringing a taste of their fun Japanese bites and fusion foods like nori tacos, miyagi fried chicken (MFC) and schnitty baos to Sydney diners. And this pop-up is set to deliver a cracking one-off event menu that will get mouth’s watering.
So, what can you expect to chow down at this week’s event? With four exclusive savoury dishes plus a limited edition Messina dessert on offer, you’ll want to come hungry to this pop-up. Kick things off with the classic Miyagi Fried Chicken, featuring the iconic MFC chicken pieces, ramen noodles, creamy spicy Japanese mayo, edamame, golden fried shallots, topped with tempura crumble and served in an edible waffle basket. Next up is the Juicy Pounded Pork, made with slow-cooked Murray Valley Pork, ramen noodles, Japanese mayo, edamame, black bean, chilli, toasted sesame, topped with ramen spiced popcorn and served in an edible waffle basket. Don’t miss the Sesame Mushroom Smash with truffled soy and sake braised mushrooms, ramen noodles, sesame dressing, edamame, chilli, topped with tomato tempura crumble served in an edible waffle basket. Oh and make sure to nab a serve of Truffled Wasabi Fries, featuring golden fries, ramen seasoning, truffle mayo, wasabi sesame furikake.
To top it all off, grab a serve of the One In A Melonpan dessert. Crafted by Messina’s team of chefs, this desert features an unusual Japanese sweet bead coated in a crisp cookie dough, stuffed with vanilla gelato AND strawberry sorbet. Talk about the ultimate sweet treat.
