The Lane Cove food scene has been thriving since the addition of Eat Street at The Canopy, the new restaurant precinct. Some of our favourite additions include Sugarlane paying homage to South East Asian cuisine and Garcon bringing its French flair. To add to the repertoire, the team behind Little Red Robin, formerly a fine dining restaurant in Lane Cove, has used the COVID hiatus period to give the restaurant a new direction. The name Little Red Robin comes from Owner Alessandro Nelli’s fondest childhood memories of growing up on a Tuscan vineyard in Montecarlo, near Lucca in the Tuscan region. He would spend hours watching the little red European robins singing and dancing amongst the vines in the warm Tuscan sun. Alessandro’s admiration for the simple European lifestyle inspired the new direction and he’s set out to bring his Italian roots to the table.
Head Chef Alberto Ranalli is at the helm of the kitchen recreating classic Italian dishes with his modern touch. Alberto’s culinary skills are impressive, but what set’s him apart is his connections with top-tier local producers, makers and growers. He sources the best seasonal ingredients which inspire him to bring unique dishes to the table that are big on flavour. On the menu, you’ll find dishes like Vannella Burrata with broad beans and peas, Smoked Margra Lamb Tartare, House-made Spaghetti with spanner crab and bottarga, Wagyu Beef Scotch Fillet with salsa verde and Traditional Tiramisu.
Expect to be impressed by a wine list that was given two glasses in 2020 at the Australian Wine List Of The Year Awards. There’s a huge selection of wines available by the glass and the shelves are now stocked with ceramic carafes for a true Italian drinking experience. Their team of winos will help you navigate your way around the world one wine at a time. The menu also features classic Italian cocktails including the Bizzaro Spritz with Bizarro Bitter Aperitivo, Maidenii Classic Vermouth, orange and Prosecco, the House Americano with House-blended Aperitivo, grapefruit and Fever-Tree Soda and the House Negroni with Old Grifu Gin, Bigallet China China, Fattoamano Vermouth Rosso, Balsazar Dry Vermouth and Campari.
The dining room has been redesigned with a new olive green colour scheme and European furniture. The space has a very relaxed atmosphere that reflects the European lifestyle perfectly. Whether you’re visiting for a casual wine and nibbles with friends or you’re settling in for dinner with family, Little Red Robin is sure to impress.
Open Wednesday to Saturday from 5pm (for wine only) and from 6pm dinner service until late. You can also enjoy lunch from midday on Friday and Saturday.
