Mike McEnearney is on the hunt for a new space to house his latest project, Bakery by Mike.
Sydney foodies will be well acquainted with chef Mike McEnearney. In fact, you’ve probably enjoyed a delicious meal at one of his Sydney venues. It all began with Mike’s flagship sustainable, whole-foods store in Rosebery (which closed back in 2015). Since then, the Kitchen by Mike family has grown to include Kitchen by Mike’s CBD restaurant at 1 Bent Street, his award-winning Sydney Airport canteens and most recently the newly designed KBM at Home pre-prepared home delivery menu.
You might also be familiar with Mike from his work as Creative Director of the iconic weekly Carriageworks Farmers Market (which just restarted after a short break over winter). And for seasoned Sydney foodies, you might remember Mike’s earlier role as chef at Sydney’s iconic Rockpool restaurant.
And in exciting news, Mike is on the hunt for a space to house his latest project, Bakery by Mike. That’s right, Mike has just announced he is searching for a bricks-and-mortar shop in Sydney’s eastern suburbs to be the location for his first dedicated bakery.
Extending his fresh, local and seasonal approach to baked goods, Bakery by Mike will showcase the slow-baking approach used in the baked goods already served in his existing venues. Back in 2010, Mike took up a baker’s apprenticeship at Iggy’s Bread in Bronte, learning the time-honoured tradition of sourdough bread baking. This new venue will enable Mike to share even more baked goods with Sydneysiders with a dedicated retail store.
As a Bronte local, Mike is looking to find a retail space in the neighbouring suburb of Bondi – located in close distance to other foodie spots such as Queen Street Woollahra and Five Ways in Paddington. While Mike is still hunting for the exact location of his new bakery, he hopes to swing open the doors to Bakery by Mike before Christmas 2020.
