Wine and dine the winter chills away at the Hunter Valley Wine and Food Festival.
Australia’s longest running food and wine festival is back, and this year’s program is huge. The 2019 Hunter Valley Wine & Food Festival kicked off earlier this month and will run until the end of June. Boasting over 150 wineries and located an easy 2-hour drive north west of Sydney, this is an idyllic spot for time spent out of the city.
With over 40 events happening over the two month long event, you can check out everything from wine tasting dinners to vineyard tours, masterclasses, cooking classes and long lunches.
One such event include Smokey Sundays. Hosted every Sunday during the festival at the Matilda Bay Brew house, this is your chance to feast on slow-cooked Texan style barbecue with beer pairings.
If beer isn’t your drink of choice you can head to Glandore Estate Wines where you can sip on a variety of vinos next to the bonfire of your wintry dreams at the Burning of the Barrel on June 29th. Briar Ridge Vineyard are also hosting daily Semillon and Sushi tasting experiences for just $25 per person.
Perhaps the most highly anticipated event though is the Hunter Culinary Association Food Fight. Back for its 10th year and hosted at the Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley, this event sees four prominent chefs go head-to-head each preparing a dish, paired with a wine from the region. Hosted on 17th June, the winner is then decided by the guests, who vote for their favourite dish. Battling it out this year is Thomas Boyd Margan; Troy Crisante Quay; Eilish Maloney (formerly Saint Peter) and George Mirosevich of Restaurant Mason. These young guns coming from such great restaurants is surely testament to the amazing dishes they will plate up.
