Swing On Down to The Swinging Cat

Enjoy some Southern Hospitality at the Swinging Cat

It might look like you’re about to order a meatball footlong, but swing those hips a swift left down the stairs and jitterbug your way into the buzz of the French Quarter, right here in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. New Orleans-inspired underground bar, The Swinging Cat, have just kicked off their free monthly swing dance classes.
Swinging Cat
Impeccable timing really since the famous New Orleans Jazz Festival has just come to a close. But fret no more if you didn’t manage to make a quick trip across the Pacific Ocean, you can toe tap, hip shake and Lindy Hop on the first Tuesday of every month at 44 King Street, all to the beat of a live jazz band.

The classes are run by The Sydney Swing Katz, one of Australia’s premier swing dancing performance troupes. Kicking off at 6.30pm, you can learn some infectious 1920’s style moves, sip on a hurricane and let yourself get lost in the live jazz culture of NOLA. No experience necessary.
Pete Fischer, founder and owner of the bar, highlighted “we want our guests to experience the energy and eclectic culture that New Orleans exudes and these classes just add to that experience.”

The dim lighting and perfectly mixed cocktails will blur any sign of two left feet. Their unique list offers some liquid courage with cocktails including the Sazerac, America’s very first cocktail and so much more.
The Swinging Cat are always in full swing with live music every Thursday to Sunday nights. There will be some extra special guests coming up, like Herb ArmstrongLouis Armstrong’s grandson on May 14th. Not one to miss!
Permanent marker these in your diary folks. You won’t regret it. A purrfect place for a fun night out!
