Flecha Azul Tequila, Backed By Mark Wahlberg, Hits Australia

Drink, Drink Recipes, Drinks Guide, Sydney / 27 March 2024

Mark Wahlberg’s latest project isn’t a blockbuster film, it’s a bottle of award-winning tequila!

Co-founded in 2020 by Mexican-American pro golfer Abraham Ancer and Mexican Entrepreneur Aron Marque. Flecha Azul is crafted at Mexico’s Orendain Distillery and has just three ingredients – taking charge of the additive-free tequila movement abroad.

Famous actor, producer and entrepreneur Mark Wahlberg has been backing the ultra-premium spirit since 2022 and has personally brought it to Australia this year to show it off. “I’m excited to be here as Australians get to experience their first taste of Flecha Azul,” says Wahlberg. “I look forward to dropping into local liquor stores, having a drink at some of Sydney’s best tequila bars and signing plenty of Flecha Azul Tequila bottles” he added. He’s already been seen signing some bottles around Sydney.

Flecha Azul is made using 100% Blue Weber Agave, harvested using traditional methods at the Orendain Distillery in Jalisco, Mexico. The distillery has been operating since 1926.

The brand has five distinctive tequilas to offer.

  1. Blanco Distilled and stored in stainless steel tanks, Blanco offers a crisp and clean taste, with vibrant notes of agave, citrus, and a touch of spice.
  1. Reposado Aged for six months in what once were oak barrels for American Bourbon, Reposado balances the bright character of Blanco with subtle hints of vanilla, caramel, and oak, resulting in a smooth and unforgettable flavour.
  1. Añejo Aged for 18 months in old Bourbon barrels, Añejo delivers a rich and full-bodied taste, with a taste of maple, caramel, dried herbs, and a hint of fruit, leaving a lingering finish.
  1. Cristalino Triple-filtered to ensure crystal clarity, Añejo Cristalino maintains the warmth and depth of traditional Añejo, while offering a lighter and softer palate, highlighted by notes of vanilla and dark chocolate.
  1. Extra Añejo Aged to perfection, Extra Añejo presents an indulgent experience with layers of praline, roasted pineapple, and vanilla, with a luxurious and harmonious finish.

The launch comes at the perfect time as tequila witnesses rapid growth across Australia. Coles, owner of First Choice Liquor and Vintage Cellars, the exclusive retailer for Flecha Azula said that their tequila sales have grown by almost double compared to five years ago, increasing by 14% in the past year alone.
