They do say Mum knows best!

Nestled on Sydney’s vibrant Enmore Road, Colombo Social is known for its soulful Sri Lankan cuisine and its commitment to social good. Now, they’ve launched a new initiative that promises a delightful experience for food lovers and anyone who cherishes the power of family and tradition: the Mum Cha series.

This monthly event, held on the last Saturday of every month, is a celebration of the women who inspire us in the kitchen. Shaun Christie-David, founder of Colombo Social, and his mother Shiranie, team up with a different Australian personality and their mother each month. Together, they create a unique ten-course lunch menu that blends their cultural backgrounds and signature dishes.

The concept is heartwarmingly simple. It’s about sharing a love of food and the stories that go with it. An intimate setting is designed where Shaun and Shiranie collaborate with a renowned chef and his mother, creating a fusion of flavours that reflects their heritage and culinary journeys.

The inaugural Mum Cha, will be held on Saturday 29th June, featuring Dan Hong, the acclaimed chef behind Sydney’s Mr. Wong and Ms. G’s, and his mother Angie Hong. Diners will enjoy a delectable fusion of Sri Lankan dishes from Shaun and Shiranie, alongside Dan’s signature Vietnamese flavours. The menu boasts treats like Shiranie’s famous dhal sandwiches and Colombo Social’s crowd-pleasing tuna cutlets, alongside Dan’s mini sugarcane prawns and fresh rice paper rolls.

Looking ahead, July’s Mum Cha welcomes Charlie Carrington, founder of Melbourne’s Atlas Dining, and his mother. Each month promises a team in the kitchen, giving you a chance to discover the stories and flavours that have shaped these talented individuals.
