Australian Chef and Restauranteur, Neil Perry has just opened a three-storey Cantonese restaurant and basement cocktail bar in the ritzy harbourside suburb.

Mr. Perry and his wife, Samantha Perry are expanding the Margaret precinct in Double Bay adding to existing venues, Baker Bleu, Next Door and Margaret. Sydneysiders are being spoilt with the two shiny new venues, offering a very different experience in each.

Songbird

Songbird officially opened its doors on the 30th of August, offering an exquisite dining experience that fuses traditional Cantonese cuisine with contemporary Australian flair. The expansive menu, made for sharing is an ode to Chinese culinary traditions and Neil’s focus on using fresh, local, high-quality ingredients. The restaurant occupies the heritage-listed Gaden House in Double Bay, a 1960s gem designed by renowned architect, Neville Gruzman. The restaurant spans across three-storeys and the interior is both sophisticated and inviting. Experience classic Chinese decor scattered throughout including lazy suzans, lantern lights and fine china. From classics like Peking Duck and Kung Pao Chicken to clever creations of fresh seafood and seasonal vegetables, Neil’s menu shows commitment to high-quality ingredients and meticulous preparation. Dishes taste as good as they look and the restaurant’s upscale setting and premium pricing reflect the exceptional quality of the food. Bobbie’s

Bobbie’s is an NYC-style cocktail bar with live jazz, share plates and cocktails made by the world-class cocktail connoisseur, Linden Price. Linden and his wife, Nathalie Hudson bring experience from LA and NYC’s renowned Dante (a circa-1915 café serving small plates and cocktails in a renovated historic setting). Bobbie’s accepts walk-ins and takes a limited number of reservations, making it the perfect place for a tipple after dinner at Songbird. Bobbie’s pays homage to Australian hall-of-fame DJ, Bob Rogers, who lived through the golden era of Rock n Roll. Boasting mid-century furnishings and plush velvet seats, Bobbie’s can seat up to 90 people. The 25-year friendship between Neil and Linden began with Linden’s Rockpool apprenticeship. The opening of Bobbie’s is truly a full-circle moment, with the pair reuniting to showcase their shared passion for genuine hospitality, and top-class dining and drinking. With the addition of Songbird and Bobbie’s, the Margaret precinct has solidified its reputation as Double Bay’s go-to for fine dining. From the refined elegance of Songbird to the vibrant atmosphere of Bobbie’s, the Perrys’ latest ventures are a welcome addition to the suburb’s dining scene.
