With waterfront views, touches of Palm Springs styling & a killer cocktail list, Bar Tropic is ready to host you this summer!
As summer approaches, Sydneysiders are on the prowl for waterside bars to provide relief from the Aussie heat. Because there’s nothing better than jumping off the beach salty and making a beeline for a bar with alfresco seating and sea breeze… Manly has always offered this kind of European lifestyle and a popular destination for a post-beach tipple is Wharf Bar. The venue has been given new life after a major renovation, menu revamp and the addition of a new Mediterranean restaurant, Bar Tropic.
Alexander & Co led the design and interior makeover. Think coastal finishes, pops of warm colours, white painted steel and exposed concrete floors. The new restaurant/bar pays homage to its sister venue on the Gold Coast, Burleigh Pavilion. It’s unlikely you’ve visited Burleigh Heads without stopping in for cocktails on the deck, having a boogie to live music and enjoying delicious food from its restaurant, The Tropic. Owner Ben May has set the bar high in replicating this energy within Bar Tropic.
Executive Chef Francois Poulard is at the helm of the kitchen bringing his experience from Wollahra’s Chiswick. Expect a Mediterranean-inspired menu boasting incredible Australian seafood. The open-style kitchen allows you to watch the chefs in their element. Pick your seat between the high terrazzo tables inside or amongst the spacious wharf deck overlooking the sparkling harbour water. The menu features Wood-Fired Flatbread with Antipasto like Burrata, Taramasalata, Anchovies, Padron Peppers and Salami. You can get freshly shucked Oysters, Prawn Cocktails and smaller plates like Grilled Scallops and Beef Tartare. The star of the menu will be the Cold Seafood Platters with Spanner Crab, Scallop Ceviche, Tiger Prawns and Kingfish Crudo, Eastern Rock Lobster Frities and Tomahawk Steak Fries.
The bar boasts grand timber and brass finishes with colourful stool seating so you can perch up next to the bartenders. The beverage list has been designed to complement the Mediterranean menu. You’ll find a curation of wines from Australian makers, international varietals and an ever-evolving cocktail list made for easy sipping. Cocktails include the ‘Amalfi’ inspired by limoncello of Italy, the ‘Saint Maxime’ inspired by the south of France and the ‘Spice Pineapple Margarita’, perfect for those steamy summer days.
The original Wharf Bar still provides the best seat in the house with a sun-drenched terrace wrapping around the entire venue. Poulard runs a menu of elevated pub classics such as Fresh Tiger Prawns on ice, Grass-Fed Rump Steak, Fish & Chips, Burgers, Fish Tacos and Kingfish Poke Bowls. You can also order pizza and watch it bubble in the exposed wood-fired oven. The venue is set to host a huge line-up of entertainment this summer including the return of Sunday Sessions. Expect DJs every Friday and Saturday night, as well as live acoustic sets during the week to highlight local Northern Beaches’ talent.
