Hank’s Bagelry: Armadale’s Go-to Spot for New York-style Bagels

Eat, Melbourne / 26 April 2023

Hank’s has made its grand entrance on Armadale’s bustling Beatty Avenue, offering a fabulous taste of New York with their delightful bagels. This cosy gem is sure to become a hot spot for locals, commuters, and visitors alike, thanks to their splendid array of freshly baked bagels, scrumptious homemade cookies, heavenly shakes, and top-quality Inglewood coffee.

Positioned conveniently opposite Toorak Station and just off Malvern and Orrong Roads, Hank’s presents a delightful selection of delicious takeaway options to please both classic and daring taste buds. This impressive bagelry is the creation of the respected Beatty Group, the same team behind popular southside eateries Mammoth Café Armadale and Copycat Bar & Restaurant Elsternwick.

The idea for Hank’s was born from co-owner and co-founder Nick Beerens’ passion for New York’s iconic bagel shops. With a desire to bring that same experience to Melbourne, Hank’s bagels, sourced from the renowned Elsternwick institution, Savion, are available in five enticing varieties – plain, seeded, onion, challah, and gluten-free. The mouth-watering menu, carefully crafted by Executive Chef and Beatty Group co-owner Kevin Middleton, offers a diverse range of tempting options.

Bagel lovers can enjoy the delightful #1, featuring beetroot and gin-cured salmon, herbs, red onion, and cream cheese, or the scrumptious #8, packed with harissa roasted pumpkin, almond feta, hummus, and wild rocket. For those seeking simpler pleasures, Hank’s also serves up comforting classics like Nutella, cream cheese, peanut butter, and house-made jam.

In addition to their bagels, Hank’s offers a variety of enticing accompaniments, such as pickles, crisps, and crinkle-cut hot chips. Their selection of delightful in-house cookies and indulgent American-style shakes is also sure to please, while the $2 filter coffee with any bagel is a fantastic bargain.

Hank’s inviting interior, designed by Leftfield Studio, features a bright, airy, and pristine aesthetic, complete with heritage stained-glass windows, blue steel accents, and subway tiles, evoking the spirit of New York. Whether you’re enjoying a bagel, cookie, coffee, or shake at one of the outdoor tables or grabbing a quick bite to go, Hank’s is set to become a much-loved addition to the Armadale community.
