Meet Louey’s: The Espy’s Fresh Italian-American Twist

Eat, Melbourne, Restaurants / 3 July 2023

Introducing Louey’s Bar & Kitchen, the newest member of the beloved and iconic St Kilda pub, The Espy.

Stepping into the shoes of the former Espy Kitchen, Louey’s is opening its doors on Wednesday 28th June, all set to shower you with warmth, good vibes, and delightful Italian-American flavours.

Located at the heart of The Espy, Louey’s invites guests into a vibrant, cosy space adorned with neon lights, stylish red leather booths, and soft ambient lighting. The centrepiece of the room, a disco-ball inspired DJ booth, adds to the fun and lively atmosphere, alongside a stunning mural designed by Melbourne-based artist, Filthydirtyrat (Celeste Murphy).

Louey’s is more than just a place to dine; it’s an experience. With an upbeat party atmosphere that kicks in every weekend, it’s the ideal destination for celebrations, friendly get-togethers, and anyone looking for a night filled with fun and frivolity. It promises more than just great food and drink, presenting a weekly line-up of entertainment events that echo the ethos of The Espy – ‘dance while you dine’.

Every Wednesday, Louey’s House Band takes the stage with a funky, jazzy style, ensuring the night reverberates with crowd-pleasing classics. Thursdays to Saturdays, house DJs bring an infectious Itali-disco vibe, maintaining a high energy level into the late evening.

And that’s not all. Louey’s introduces ‘Pick of the Brunch’ every Saturday from 12pm to 2:30pm. This unique brunch session offers a piano bar-inspired atmosphere where guests can enjoy a welcome cocktail, select a brunch dish, and even request songs!

Executive Chef Tony Moss has curated a menu that caters to every palate. The offering ranges from Mini Fried Lasagne and Meatball Pull-Apart Sliders for light bites, to hearty dishes like Chicken Parmigiana and Big Rigatoni. Adding an element of drama, freshly shaved Parmesan from a giant tableside wheel enhances the Italian dishes. Don’t forget to end the meal with their signature dessert – a refreshing limoncello sorbet served in a whole lemon.

In terms of libations, the 2-Sip Martini is a perfect conversation starter. The drinks menu then leads to an innovative selection of cocktails such as the Hot Pink Chihuahua, the Spicy Louey Margarita, and the Sbagliato Spider – a nostalgic, adult spin on the classic childhood spider.

The Espy Venue Manager, Chad Kaya, sees Louey’s as an ideal blend of the casual pub vibe downstairs and the elegance of Mya Tyger upstairs. Ready to welcome everyone from Wednesday 28th June, Louey’s Bar & Kitchen is now accepting bookings through their website and the Hotel Esplanade website. So why wait? Start planning your visit today.
