You’ve never had a sandwich like the one at Malibu Malibu Sandwich Bar before

According to the Guinness World Records, the largest sandwich ever created was in Michigan USA in 2005. It weighed 2,467.5 kg and was made by Wild Woody’s Chill and Grill. That’s a whole lot of sandwich to fill your lunchbox and after the hours it took to make I doubt you’d want to eat it, even if you were game to try. A slightly more modest, yet equally triumphant attempt would be finishing a large Vienna sandwich from Surry Hills gem Malibu Sandwich Bar. This shoebox sandwich and espresso bar has been treating in-the-know locals to amazing creations for years.

Discreetly tucked off Elizabeth St, you’ll spot this place by the long line of hungry locals. Be warned, many will not succeed in finishing their lunch. I’ve seen grown men look failure deep in the eyes of their freshly baked bread and reduced to tears at the left over poached chicken and celeriac coleslaw.

For those who eat breakfast and intend on dinner may I suggest a Malibu salad? Don’t be deceived by the small white box it comes in…pop the lid on this beauty and you’ll find fresh lettuce, tomato, olives, potato salad, seasonal vegetables, home-made coleslaw all in the same mix. Then you’ll need to choose your main ingredient of course, such as roast beef, salmon, or tuna. Feeling a little fussy? Design your own sandwich, salad or toastie. Oh and did I mention they’re cheap? Grab a sanger for $6.50 and the biggest salad you’ve ever seen for $10.
Be sure to take in the antics of the husband/wife combo that owns Malibu. They’re quite the characters and don’t mind open arguing, affection and political debates in front of customers, but don’t worry it’s all part of the Malibu experience.
