Vecino’s Delicious Mexican-Korean Fusion Opens In Glebe

Eat, Restaurants, Sydney / 25 May 2023

It’s modern fusion mixed with traditional recipes and cooking from the heart.

Picture this: you’re savouring a tangy kimchi-wrapped burrito and bulgogi tacos that are flavour packed with every bite. It’s an unlikely pairing, but Mexican-Korean fusion is precisely what you’ll find at Vecino, merging two distinct cultures (and flavours) together to form one delicious cuisine.

Vecino is the brainchild behind Tony and Eunice, who wanted to spread the fun, Korean culture they grew up with into the Aussie community. The couple has travelled extensively, with Tony working in kitchens around the globe and having an extensive background in Mexican cuisine. This, coupled with their Korean background, inspired them to incorporate elements from both cuisines and turn it into modern-day fare. Vecino originally opened in Canterbury, but has since expanded to Glebe. It was a no brainer for the two, who fell in love with the vibrant and multicultural aspects of the suburb, and wanted to breathe fusion cuisine into Glebe’s dining scene.

Casual, no-fuss dining is what you’ll expect at Vecino. The menu is clever, skilfully curating both cultures into something that leaves you craving for more. The immediate crowd-pleasers are the Bulgogi Tacos, with marinated soy beef, teriyaki sauce and cabbage sliced and topped with black beans and guacamole as well as their Honey Cream Prawn Tacos, with honey mayo glazed fried prawns and fresh avo. Another standout is their fried chicken, with six fusion flavours; the must try is the Sweet Spicy fried chicken, made with Vecino’s signature housemade sweet spicy sauce. It’s the classic Korean Fried Chicken flavour everyone knows and loves with a spicy hit (and the best you can get in Sydney). If you’re up for sharing, you and your friends can also order The King’s Big Dinner, Vecino’s best-selling platter that allows you to grab 4 different chicken flavours along with chips, calamari, cheese sticks and onion rings.

The cocktail menu is just as fun and experimental as its food counterpart. Vecino’s Vecinoritas blends a classic frozen marg and topping it with an upside down bottle of beer such as corona, summer bright or cruiser. There’s also the Watermelon Ju, their signature soju-based cocktail where you can enjoy a large, refreshing cocktail with Korean popsicles.

Glebe also has an upstairs private dining room which is perfect for parties and private events. It can be exclusively hired and has a different atmosphere from the street vibe ground floor. Complete with a private bar and an outdoor terrace area, the space allows you to enjoy the company of friends and family. It accommodates up to 25 guests and is perfect for intimate gatherings so you can relax, unwind and let the team take care of you. You can choose from 3 different party room packages with signature cocktails or go rowdy with Vecino’s bottomless drinks packages.
