The CBD scores a new elevated late-night Italian pasta and cocktail bar

Meet Toppi Martin Place, the new Italian dining concept from the team behind the Eastern Suburb’s iconic Bar M.

Sydney’s love affair for all things Italian shows no signs of slowing down, as this new opening confirms. Nestled in the heart of the CBD’s financial district you’ll find an elevated dining destination made for grabbing a glass of wine and bowl of pasta any night of the week.

The venue in question is Toppi Martin Place, a vibrant new dining concept set to open in the CBD this month. Tucked away in the newly opened 60 Martin Place building, this late-night Italian bar meets restaurant officially launches just in time for summer party season. Toppi takes its name from chef and owner Paola Toppi, the culinary figurehead behind the Eastern Suburb’s icon Bar M (previously Bar Machiavelli).

Toppi straddles the line between a welcoming homemade eatery and upscale CBD restaurant seamlessly. The space, designed by Steel + Stitch, delivers an expansive 30 metre dining space with rich accents of sandstone and steel playfully juxtaposing against each other.

Diners have a choice of three unique spaces to dwell, dine and drink in at Toppi. For those craving a hearty bowl of house-made pasta, head straight to the venue’s Pasta Bar for theatrically prepared signature dishes made by Chef Toppi. Expect Toppi’s classic dishes including duck ravioli with sage, browned butter and duck jus along with tagliolini with lemon, butter and blue swimmer crab plus many more seasonally-driven pasta dishes.

Just stopping by for a post-work drink? Grab a seat at Toppi’s cocktail bar for a platter of antipasti and cured meats and a well-made drink. The bar snack menu delivers mixed plates of Aperitivi that deliver an Italian takes on the classic Japanese small share plates. For just $18 per plate, enjoy the likes of Chacuterie and condiments, Raw seafood and carpaccios plus Mixed pasta and risotto.

For a more refined experience, book a table in the Dining Room for a formal menu of traditional seafood, meats and decadent pasta dishes. Sample Wagyu Eye Fillet Alla Pizzaiola with spicy tomato sauce, garlic chilli and potato mash or even Spatchcock Alla Cacciatora, featuring baked spatchcock in a tomato, mushroom, rosemary and garlic sauce. The venue also boasts a private dining space perfect for hosting intimate lunch or dinner meets in the heart of the CBD.

A truly Italian dining experience wouldn’t be complete with a glass of vino. At Toppi, diners are treated to a curated wine list by bar manager Matteo Belkeziz, bringing together a stellar selection of local and international wines. Plus, the cocktail menu boasts all the Italian classics like barrel-aged negronis made with grappa, in-season fruit bellinis, and Toppis’ ultra-decadent Tiramisu Martini.

Toppi Martin Place opens Monday, November 18th at 60 Martin Place Sydney.
