Shark Beach makes a welcome comeback to Vaucluse alongside The Kiosk’s reopening.
After a lengthy three-year rest, Sydney’s beloved Shark Beach and its iconic Nielsen Kiosk are finally re-open! Just in time for summer, Sydneysiders can once again enjoy refreshing dips in the pristine waters, followed by a bite at the iconic Vaucluse eatery.
The closure, which happened in March 2022, involved the restoration of the century-old seawall, a vital project to protect the beach from the elements. While initial estimates anticipated a December 2022 reopening, unforeseen challenges including adverse weather, asbestos presence, and engineering disputes pushed the date back. But the wait is finally over! With construction fences dismantled, residents are eager to dive back in (literally) and experience the revamped facilities.
The Nielsen Kiosk, operated by Sydney Restaurant Group’s Perry and Bill Drakopoulos is more than just your average beachside fish n’ chips joint. While classics they remain a menu staple, the new offering has a contemporary twist on coastal cuisine. Chef Jordan Middleton’s creations include tempting dishes like marinated octopus with blistered tomatoes and olives, or a salad featuring miso-roasted butternut pumpkin on a bed of harissa yoghurt. Yum!
Comfort options like crispy calamari and wagyu burgers for takeaway, alongside sit-down staples like pizzas, tuna poke bowls, and schnitzels available. And early risers can start their day with a swim alongside smashed avo on toast or a decadent banoffee French toast.
For those lounging by the water, a dedicated drinks list offers the perfect post-swim refreshment. Sip on local and international beers and wines, or cool down with a refreshing cocktail like their “Lemon Meringue” with vodka, limoncello, crème de cacao and egg whites.
Breakfast is served on weekends, while lunch is available daily. The Nielsen Kiosk offers a welcoming space in Vaucluse, with both indoor and outdoor seating, perfect for catching up with friends and family after a beach day. With its reopening, Shark Beach promises to once again be a vibrant hub for the local community.
Head to the Nielsen Kiosk website for further details. The Kiosk is located at Shark Beach in Nielsen Park, accessible via Greycliffe Avenue, Vaucluse. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, Shark Beach and Nielsen Kiosk are must-visit destinations. So, grab your towel, sunscreen, and a good book, and head down to enjoy the sun, sea, and sand.
