“I inhale oysters for a living” is exactly what you want to hear from a guy who is dishing up the oysters sitting in front of you. Sean Connolly, chef at The Morrison Bar & Oyster Room, knows what he’s doing when it comes to oysters, which is why for the second year in a row; the Morrison is about to hold the Oyster Festival.
Connolly is bringing back our love of oysters with special deals and activities running throughout the month of August. How many oysters can you eat? Test your skills with $1 oysters from 6-7pm daily. Try your luck in the oyster eating competition, held on the 19th of August, and see how fast you can eat three-dozen oysters! Or take an oyster masterclass and learn how to shuck the little suckers yourself.
Along with these activities and specials, Connolly has created an ‘oyster menu’ for the special month, filled with his favourite oyster dishes. The oyster slider is a must-have and makes those little burgers better than ever. An oyster omelette is another item on the menu, alongside the delicious oyster chowder served in a coffee cup.
Try a Carpetbag Steak, a phenomenon from the 1890’s, and be pleasantly surprised when you realise halfway through your meal that your delicious cut of meat has an oyster in it. Yes that’s right – an oyster in a steak! Who would’ve thought it would work so well?
August is a jam-packed month for The Morrison and if you are an oyster-lover, you better get down there and try it all. We know where we’ll be this month!
