The Opera House as you’ve never seen it before, featuring: Cocktail making, Poké masterclasses and wine pairings galore (to name a few).
It’s not often we get the chance to be a tourist in our own city, but the team at The Opera House has put together an unmissable guided dining tour, Taste of the House. The all-inclusive long lunch gives foodies an opportunity to feast on menu favourites from the Opera House’s leading restaurants and bars.
The intimate dining experience hosts 10 people per lunch, allowing guests to really go behind the scenes. Enjoy unforgettable moments from past Concert Hall performances in a new purpose-built venue featuring heritage-inspired interiors, 270-degree visuals, and surround sound.
The four-hour dining experience kicks off at Opera Bar, where guests will learn how to craft the house favourite, The Sydney Sling. The refreshing signature cocktail is made up of gin, mint, citrus, an Australian amaro and smoked lemonade. Guests will enjoy their creation with a fresh seafood tasting plate, a specialty of the Opera Bar’s in-house Raw Bar.
Next, it’s on to Opera Kitchen where guests will be welcomed with a house-made salumi plate, a glass of wine and breathtaking views. Then, learn how to prepare a variety of condiments and fillings to create the perfect poke bowl in a chef-led masterclass.
For mains, Head Chef at Portside Sydney Karl Patrick Thomas will prepare a 12-hour braised Riverina lamb shoulder, served with sheep’s curd, sundried tomatoes and minted peas, accompanied by a seasonal side dish, bread and matching NSW wine.
To finish, guests will venture underneath the Opera House sails for Bennelong’s new dessert, the Chocolate Crackle, by Executive Chef Peter Gilmore. The modern twist on the childhood party treat features layers of chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, salted oloroso caramel, prune jam, chocolate ganache, caramelised whipped cream and organic brown rice crispies individually coated in four different kinds of chocolate. Dessert is served with a side of live jazz music, performed by Australia’s best musicians.
Sydney Opera House Director of Visitor Experience, Jade McKellar, says: “With so much choice at the Opera House, we’ve taken the menu favourites from our leading restaurants and bars and turned it into an unforgettable roving dining experience. This is a great way for people to treat themselves to lunch with a twist, surrounded by the history, architecture and art of this magical place, whilst feasting on great Australian food and drink.”
Tickets to Taste of the House are $295 per person. The dining experience runs on the last Sunday of each month. To see dates and book, click here. Vegetarian and non-alcoholic options can be selected upon booking.
