The St Ives Medieval Faire is Returning in 2018

Eat, Sydney / 22 August 2018

Take a step back in time at the annual Medieval Faire popping up at St Ives Showground.

If the seemingly never-ending break between the last and upcoming season of Game of Thrones has you yearning for a little more action back in your life, fret not as a weekend of sword yielding, jousting and feasting is set to hit St Ives in the wake of the fifth annual Medieval Faire.
Held over two days on Saturday 22 September and Sunday 23 September, this Medieval Faire encourages both young and old to take a step back in time, exploring the cultures and customs from the Dark Ages all the way to the High Middle Ages.
Your ticket gives you access to a range of adrenaline pumping events, including the infamous international jousting tournament. It sees jousters from across Europe making the trip to the event to compete in full armour on horseback. The Joust will also witness the return of Australian champion jouster Sir Phillip Leitch, from Victoria, and his purebred Friesian Stallion, Valiant.
Whilst you’re in the Medieval Village, take the time to stroll through the centuries, from the mysterious Dark Ages to the enlightenment of the High Middle Ages. In hamlets you’ll find moments in time brought to life by actors and educators. Adding to the weekend’s festivities will also be a giant catapult (offering live demonstrations!), Birds of Prey demonstrations + more!
Spanning across the two days, punters can also watch on as experienced marksmen demonstrate their archery skills. Those feeling brave are invited to try their hand at shooting a longbow in a traditional archery range operated by the Medieval Archery Society.
The Middle Ages were a thirsty time and this year’s Medieval Faire will be no different, with a pop-up tavern bar. Supplying plenty of delicious brews and mead will be the Two Birds Brewing team. Owned by Jayne Lewis and Danielle Allen, this female owned Aussie brewing company typify everything that is good about the craft beer industry.
Looking to pimp out your experience? In this year’s festivities, patrons can opt for the special VIP Upgrade. It gives you access to the Royal Court Experience, featuring a Long Table Gourmet Feast. Taste your way through the likes of authentic medieval suckling pig, spatchcock, parsnip pies, cherry tarts and more! You’ll also get to experience horse-drawn carriage VIP transfers and premium members seatings for the Joust.
There’s plenty more going on at the Medieval Faire. To see everything that’s going, you can check out the official website here.
