Review: Rimba Sweat, Neutral Bay

Play, Sydney / 12 December 2022

Detox, relax and leave feeling like you’ve been on a warm European holiday.

As the festivities kick in and the calendar fills with social activities our skin, liver, and mental well-being could do with some time out. Enter Rimba Sweat, the ideal detox to squeeze into your busy schedule.

Rimba Sweat has been running successfully for two years in Manly and now expanded to Neutral Bay. The space is visually stunning with a Mediterranean aesthetic of whitewashed walls, curved architecture and marble features. Upon entering it feels like you’re in Greece. The new luxury flagship studio is double the size of the Manly space.

The infrared sauna suites are state-of-the-art, equipped with 32-inch Smart TV’s so you can watch Netflix or Kayo, or opt for an audio experience and connect to Spotify which is what I did listening to Moby’s meditation tracks. The saunas are incredibly comfortable and made of Canadian cedar wood, which is naturally antifungal and antibacterial.

Infrared heat is said to go deeper, penetrating your muscles, skin, joints, and tissues to increase circulation and help rid the body of toxins. Ideal at this time of year as we go from one festive outing to the next. Sweating it out in an infrared sauna isn’t just a soothing experience but has numerous health benefits. It can assist weight loss (as it increases your increases metabolism), recovery, immunity, heart health, cellulite reduction, and collagen production.

Infrared saunas aren’t as hot as traditional sweat saunas (which Rimba also offers) but don’t think you won’t sweat. The temperature within the infrared sauna sits between 40-65 degrees. The added bonus of Rimba Sweat sauna is you can adjust the temperature up or down to suit your needs. Infrared heat works by emitting light that penetrates deep beneath the skin tissue and heats the body from within, increasing blood flow and circulation as your core body temperature rises. Benefits include better skin, improved sleep, more energy, and an elevated mood (due to the endorphin release).

Adding to the restorative experience, Rimba Sweat infrared saunas also feature built-in Chromotherapy (Colour Light Therapy). There are six colours to choose from depending on your need or desire, such as blue to promote rest and relaxation, energising red, or green the universal healer. You control the temperature and chromo lights, which means you can change your colour mid-session or even choose the full rainbow spectrum. I selected mentally calming blue to start and then as I relaxed, switched to purple which enhances artistic talents and encourages inspiration.

The studio has five large private sauna rooms. Each is equipped with a shower for rinsing off post-sweat. The 50 minute session is inclusive of a shower, should you wish to have one pre or post sauna.

In addition to the sauna rooms, brave souls may be tempted to try The Remedy Room, Sydney’s first studio to offer communal contrast therapy. The stylish room looks like a mini Roman Bathhouse and includes a custom made Finnish traditional steam sauna (where you stoke the coals on to fire it up, two ice baths and wooden pail shower).

Contrast Therapy is a practice where you alternate between hot and cold, encouraging the expansion and contraction of blood vessels. The practice is followed by many athletes and has been proven to aid in recovery as the repairing of blood cells is pushed to the injured area faster. Contrast Therapy has also built quite a cult following due to the sense of euphoria and rush of energy felt following the immersion.

You’re encouraged to BYO your water bottle, and it will be refilled throughout your session with complimentary filtered water. The studio also has a range of refreshments for sale including both alkaline and coconut water, as well as other nutrient-dense beverages such as cold-pressed juices and kombucha. Forgot to bring your towel? No problem, Rimba Sweat plush green towels are available to hire ($3).

What I like best about Rimba is you can enjoy the wellness experience solo or book a sauna room with your partner or friends. Each sauna will easily fit two-three people. It’s a great way to catch up with a friend/s or if you’re really game, take your date to the next level, knowing you’re both going to leave feeling energised and with increased serotonin levels.

Blissed out, I left Rimba feeling relaxed like I’d been on a warm European holiday.

I highly recommend taking time out and booking into Rimba Sweat – a transformative experience you won’t regret.

One Zen Suite sweat session is $55 (for 50 minutes) and a single Contrast session is $65. For more information or to book visit the website www.rimbasweat.com.au
