Two Of NSW’s Biggest NYE Dance Music Festivals Are Making A Comeback, Here’s All You Need To Know

With Arctic Monkeys And Lil Nas X Confirmed For Lost Paradise AND Falls Festival This Summer, which of Australia’s most hotly anticipated NYE festivals will you be attending?

After a two-year covid enforced absence, we are now delighting in the arrival of two proverbial festival buses at once. But which one shall we clamber aboard? With overlapping musical line-ups, both taking place over NYE, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to line up the programmes side by side to help you decide how to see off 2022.

Lost Paradise | Located just one hour’s drive from the centre of Sydney and set across 3000 beautiful acres of Glenworth Valley, is the perfect escape from the city. This year’s musical lineup boasts a genre-spanning lineup of live acts and DJs soundtracking late-night revelry across the festival’s creatively designed and curated stages – Arcadia, Lost Disco, Paradise Club, and My Mum’s Disco. 

With Arctic Monkeys and Lil Nas X headlining both festivals, it’s all going to come down to the support acts. Lost Paradise’s thumping lineup features over 80 artists and DJs, heralding from all corners of the globe as well as sensational homegrown talent. Expect to catch Jamie xx, Ocean Alley, Spacey Jane, G Flip, PinkPantheress, Cub Sport, Genesis Owusu, Young Franco, The VANNS, MAY-A, Furnace & The Fundamentals, King Stingray and Pacific Avenue to name a handful of the talent on offer. 

Falls Festival | The North Byron Parklands at Byron Bay supplies the ultimate backdrop for NYE festival vibes. The line-up is stacked with incredible locals like Spacey Jane, and emerging favourites RONA as well as huge international talent from Peggy Gou, Chvrches and Jamie XX. In total, the three-day festival will showcase a sensational 46 artists.

Lost Paradise | Off-stage, you’ll find community and culture at the heart of Lost Paradise. Enter Shambhala Fields – the nurturing soul of Lost Paradise and a world unto itself. Shambhala promises a diverse oasis of yoga, talks, workshops, healing arts and indigenous experiences. You’ll also discover a ‘Lost Village’ of markets ready to explore where you’ll find everything from vintage clothing to lockers and charging stations.

Let’s not forget the annual NYE fancy dress parade which encourages festival-goers to get creative and celebrate the start of the new year in style.

Falls Festival | Fun and frivolity is at the forefront of Falls Festival, with a plethora of cool things to do while you’re waiting for your favourite acts.  Grab a floatie and cool off from the Summer heat in one of Falls’ swimming pools. Unleash your competitive side in a three-legged race, backyard cricket or non-alcoholic beer pong at the Sh*t Olympics. Partake in a little Pinot and Paint at Creative Space or peruse the carefully curated makers markets filled with upcycled clothing and unique pieces for you to splurge on.

For those looking to weave a little wellness into the weekend, set the intention with morning yoga or pilates session, then meditate your way to being perfectly present in the festival moment before hitting ‘Hammock Heaven’.

Accommodation 

Lost Paradise | From glamping to camping, Lost Paradise has three accommodation options to suit your comfortability. Glamp in a fully kitted out, beautiful leafy glen only a stone’s throw from the main festival site. The glamping ground has just received a fresh glow up so you’ll be the first to try out the new facilities. If you’re preempting a reluctant pack-down after the NYE celebrations, Tent City offers a tent readily set up for you and dismantled for you at the end to be reused. 3 & 4-day tickets include access to the GA camping area. Falls Festival | Falls Fest is offering a similar set-up with three accommodation options, although their glamping option is next level boujee. Their luxe Flash Camp glamping village offers friendly portering and concierge services, luxe air-conditioned bathroom facilities, plus an onsite team of hair, makeup and massage professionals. Base Glamp offers a more tailored experience in which guests can choose their preferred level of luxury, ensuite deluxe suite anyone?

Rent A Tent lets you choose from 2, 3, 4 or 6 person tents, that are set up and deconstructed for you, leaving more time to chill at the vibey, hang out marquee exclusively for Rent A Tent members.

Eat & Drink

Lost Paradise | There’s a delicious curated line-up of 30+ pop-up trucks & stalls on offer at lost paradise. Foodies will adore Lost Village with its mouth-watering lineup of homemade dim sum, Japanese street food and southern-Indian delicacies alongside authentic wood-fired pizza, gelato, and vegan fare to name a few.

Falls Festival | You’ll be spoilt for choice at High St, where you’ll find all kinds of tantalising treats when it’s time to snack. There’ll also be a whole host of small bars serving up everything from Tommy’s Margaritas, bubbles and seltzers and ice-cold craft beers to fuel the New Year frivolities.
