Iconic Food Truck, Nighthawk, Has Opened a Permanent Diner In Alexandria

Eat, Sydney / 4 November 2020

The beloved Sydney food truck has transformed into an inner-city American diner.

Since 2011, Nighthawk has been hitting the streets of Sydney and serving a modern take on classic American and Mexican eats. After years of slinging burgers and bites out of their infamous silver airstream, the team has set up a more permanent home in Alexandria.

The story behind Nighthawk’s first brick-and-mortar outpost began in the thick of COVID restrictions. With bookings canceled and their trucks parked, the team started a ghost kitchen in Alexandria to keep their business going. Now, they’ve complete a big reno on the space to create a dedicated spot for dine-in lunch and dinner as well as takeaway eats.

Nighthawk Diner’s head chef and owner Alistair Fogg is excited to bring the American diner tradition to Alexandria, serving good food and good times to inner-city locals. The roots of the Nighthawk’s original menu are well and truly alive, with a bunch of classic dishes available for lunch and dinner. Plus, the team has added an expanded vegan and vegetarian menu as well as a seasonal spring lunch menu packed with nutritious seasonal salads, sandwiches, kombucha, and coffee.

At Nighthawk Diner, don’t miss the Ribwich, packed with slow-cooked pork short ribs from Jim’s Butchery that is shredded and mixed with a special recipe sausage mince to make long, tender, and juicy patties. It’s served with pickled red cabbage for sharpness, drizzled with Nighthawk’s smokey BBQ and cheese sauce, and topped off with homemade butter pickles to create the ultimate rib sando.

There’s also the Miami Cuban (featuring slow-cooked citrus pork, smoky bacon, butter pickles, and American cheese), the Philly Cheesesteak (a classic on the Nighthawk menu for almost 10 years) plus the Eggplant Parmigiana Sandwich (the ultimate vegetarian sandwich).

As for new dishes, Nighthawk Diner is slinging salads such as the Sydney Spring Green, Los Angelenos, and even Oven Smoked Salmon Bagels. As for drinks, this diner is slinging brews from neighbouring Mecca Coffee (with their rich ‘Moonwalker’ blend on the menu).

Find Nighthawk Diner at 4/662 Botany Road, Alexandria. Currently open Wednesday to Saturday from 12pm to 2:30pm and 5pm to 9pm.
