Now in its third year, and crabbier than ever, is The Morrison’s 2016 Annual Crab Carnival. Kicking off on Wednesday 25th March, this month long celebration showcases all things delicious and crustacean. So sharpen those claws and get shell-cracking.
The special Crab Menu, crafted by award-winning Executive Chef and owner Sean Connolly, is nothing short of innovative. The famed Crabby Mary cocktail is back. Think Ketel One Vodka with lashings of chilli, as well as celery, pickles and fresh Alaskan crab claws.

Crab aficionados will enjoy the soft shell crab burgers expertly balanced with green goddess dressing and duck fat chips. The bite sized crab hush puppies ($17) are also a winner. The crunchy exterior of this Southern-style appetiser is ripe for the zesty jalapeno tartare dipping. Also keep an eye out for the snow crab roll ($19, two per serve) on a wonderfully sweet bun and filled with crème fraîche, lemon and coriander.

The Morrison’s renowned crab and lettuce tacos are back for another year. Throughout the Carnival they have their own happy hour. From 6-7pm each night diners can enjoy 3 of these for $5.

However the masterstroke of the Crab Carnival is the Steam Pot. Available every Thursday, it comes with a license to play elbow-deep with your meal. Gone are the plates and cutlery, in their stead is fresh butchers paper on the table upon which a hot mix of whole crab, chorizo, corn and potato are served. Don’t be fooled, this is as messy as it sounds. Thankfully bibs, gloves and crab forks are provided.
It’s not called a Crab Carnival for nothing, and after they’ve fed you, they will also entertain you. Every second Thursday they will have Hermit crab racing. The $5 sweep will see each hermit crab be numbered before these tiny little go-getters are unleashed. There will be crabtastic prizes for the winners.

– Steam Pot Thursdays – Every Thursday throughout the carnival from 6pm
– Crab and Lettuce Taco Happy Hour – Everyday between 6 and 7pm
– Hermit Crab Racing – Thursday April 7 and Thursday April 21 at 7pm. Each hermit crab will be numbered and The Morrison will hold a $5 sweep
