Head to the historic Lansdowne Hotel from June 4th to experience Mary’s On Top, an epic new rooftop venue.

If there’s one thing we need this winter, it’s a dose of delicious brews and epic burgers. After weeks of staying in, we’re ready to re-emerge from lockdown and rediscover our sparkling city. And to make that return one to remember, the crew from Sydney’s iconic burger joint Mary’s are giving us a new spot to visit.

That’s right, meet Mary’s On Top – the new rooftop bar-meets-restaurant opening atop the historic Lansdowne Hotel. Set to begin slinging burgers and brews from Thursday, June 4th, Mary’s On Top has been a long-awaited project for the crew (who are responsible for re-opening the live music venue back in 2017).

In fact, co-owners Jake Smyth and Kenny Graham had been eyeing off this space from the beginning. “Its always been sitting there, taunting us with its proximity and promise. Now with the world gone crazy, we figured we would match that craziness by opening a venue in the midst of the COVID mess,” tells Smyth.

Although the spot was slated to launch in Spring 2020, the Mary’s crew brought forward the launch to help give out-of-work staff a job during the pandemic. The result? Expect a raw, no-frills beer and burger bar serving up both the Mary’s meat and vegan alternatives on the rooftop overlooking our glorious city. Plus, they’ll be plenty of beer and wine on offer too.

In a time when we could all use a reason to celebrate, Mary’s On Top delivers a new rooftop spot (something desperately lacking in our city). And as Smyth puts it, “This is about celebrating what we have to share with a world sorely in need of a good time. We have a lot of sun in Sydney, we have a f*cking rooftop, and we have the best f*cking burgers in the world. Put them together with some beer or a bottle of vino, and we aren’t solving the crisis- but we might just stick a smile on some of our staff and our punters at the same time.”

While the Lansdowne remains closed due to live music and public gathering restrictions, punters will have to head to Knox Street to access Mary’s On Top. Plus, all of the Mary’s group venues (Newtown, Circular Quay, Castlereagh St, Melbourne and now Mary’s On Top) will be offering 30% food across all locations from June 4th to June 10th (available for dine-in, takeaway or delivery via Deliveroo). Mary’s On Top will be on from Thursday, June 4th, open form Thurs to Sun from midday to 10pm. Entry via Knox Street and opening dependant on the weather. Find out more here.
