MONA’s summer music and arts festival has confirmed it will be coming back this summer.
For fans of Tasmania’s Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) this announcement will be exciting news. Along with so many other events and festivals in 2020, MONA’s iconic Dark Mofo festival was postponed earlier this year. Renowned as one of the best winter arts festival, punters were left wondering when they would next be able to visit this Hobart art centre and experience its contemporary, boundary-pushing art. And now, art lovers won’t have long to wait.
Get ready: MONA’s annual summer arts festival Mona Foma will be returning in summer. That’s right, the festival has been given the green light to go ahead in January 2021 (albeit with a few COVID-friendly adjustments).
Unlike in previous years, the 2021 Mona Foma festival will be held in two locations across two separate weekends. The first weekend will be in Launceston from January 15th to 17th before heading to Hobart from January 22nd to 24th.
With so much uncertainty as to what the months ahead have in store, the Mona crew are remaining tight-lipped about what the festival will look like in summer 2021. However, expect there to be a curated selection of events, activations and performances across both satellite events in January 2021.
The announcement comes during a week of good COVID-related news for Australians, with multiple days of no community transmission in Sydney and low case numbers across the rest of the country. As borders begin to open between states, we’re optimistic that mainlanders will be able to travel to Tassie to experience Mona Foma 2021.
However, make sure to stay up to date with the latest travel restrictions closer to the date before booking your spot or traveling to Tasmania.
