This stunning, world-class facility didn’t come cheap, costing over $106.5-million-dollars for the new aquatic and recreation centre. In fact, the City of Sydney council has been working on the project for many years, with construction kicking off back in 2018. Now, Gunyama Park is the biggest centre of its kind to open in Sydney since the 2000 Olympics.
Taking its name from the local Dharug language (translating to wind from the southwest), the centre has a trio of indoor and outdoor pools to take a dip in. There’s a 50m outdoor pool complete with a shaded beach area, plus a 25m indoor heated pool and an indoor kids aqua play area. Plus, there’s even an indoor hydrotherapy pool as well.
From learn to swim classes to squad programs and aqua aerobics, this is the perfect pool to sharpen your water skills.
As for the recreation centre, Gunyama Park features an outdoor gym, open-air deck designed for yoga, an on-site cafe, a multi-use sports field, meeting rooms and so much more. The centre is even powered by rooftop solar panels and surplus energy generated from the complex will be used to power other surrounding community buildings in Zetland.
Gunyama Park is now open at 17 Zetland Avenue, Zetland, open from 6 am to 8 pm daily. Find out more here.
