Vegan Dining Goes Dirty at Alibi, Woolloomooloo

Eat, Sydney / 21 August 2019

Sydney’s first vegan fine-dining restaurant, Alibi, has now added something a little dirtier to their plant-based portfolio and you need to put it on your radar (read: plate).

Alibi’s Head Chef, Jordan Brogan has met and conquered the challenge of creating a tasty, greasy, finger-licking, vegan bar menu to enjoy, guilt-free. The new ‘Dirty Greens’ bar menu offers the likes of hotdogs, tacos and burgers- all the greasy goodness we can only imagine our plant-based friends miss most.

The colourful and eclectic venue that is Alibi is found within the Ovolo Hotel on the picturesque Woolloomooloo Cowper Wharf. With interiors akin to that of a stylish lady’s lounge room, it offers ample private nooks. This makes it the perfect space for a date or a catch-up where you can 1) actually hear each other talk and 2) feel like you’re in your own intimate space.

Try the mac n cheese balls ($14), the bao buns ($15) with pulled Asian style jackfruit and the Beyond Burger ($25) with a ‘quarter pounder’, American ‘cheese’, pickles, tomato, iceberg and fries. You’ll be left with guilt-free satisfaction, as well as a curiosity as to the limits of plant-based cuisine. From our point of view, the limits are seemingly infinite.

Complimenting these vegan delights is an extensive sustainably-skewed wine list and colourful cocktails. For something with theatrical flare try the Flower Power Sour ($24) with Belluga Noble Vodka, elderflower, housemade lavender syrup, mandarin liquer, creme de violette, orange blosson water and yuzu.

If you’ve got a friend that needs a little convincing to cross to the green-side, this is the place to do it. For a real challenge, don’t even mention to said friend that it’s a meat-free menu– we bet you a vegan hotdog they won’t even notice (disclaimer: we will not be held liable for any arguments had).

Thank you Alibi for once again raising the bar in plant-based-dining and challenging the stereotype of vegan cuisine as rabbit food.

The full ‘Dirty Greens’ menu is available from 4pm till late.
