Dan Murphy's Hosts Interactive Pop-up Bar in Abandoned House

Cool Sh*t, Drink, Play, Sydney / 21 February 2018

Drink your way through an abandoned house and discover top 2018 drink trends at the House of Discovery.

If you fancy keeping your finger on the pulse when it comes to the hottest trends, it’s time to pay attention to the ‘House of Discovery’. This March, booze lords Dan Murphy’s are inviting you to discover and drink the top 2018 trends in the world of drinks and mixology, all in an abandoned heritage house.
The slightly ominous abandoned site, situated in the heart of Chippendale, will facilitate Instagram-worthy installations and drinks, all reflecting our current drinking habits and trends over the two day event, from 8th – 10th March.
What are the said trends, you ask? In 2018, we’re firstly looking at you tequila.
This prized Mexican spirit is predicated to soar in 2018. The House of Discovery will take you through the ins and outs of tequila and the real way to enjoy it – no salt and lime required! In the first room of the abandoned house, you’ll get to walk through an agave path, transporting you to the fields of Mexico! Here you can also learn how to tell and taste the difference between tequila blanco, reposado and anejo and walk away feeling like a true tequila connoisseur.
Trend no. 2 is the ‘at home bartender’. In a world where staying in is the new going out, Dan Murphy’s have noticed a trend where cocktail making is moving from the bars and into the comfort of people’s homes.
The House of Discovery at home bartender space will be split into two bars – the Tiki Bar and the 1950s Martini Bar. In this second room, you’ll get the opportunity to taste these signature cocktails and next learn how to your make own.
Trend number 3 is ‘drink first, food second’.
We’re used to ordering our meal and then selecting our wine or beer to match but this method is about to be turned on its head with punters learning how to pair their food to their favourite drink – be it beer, wine or spirits. The House of Discovery journey will finish in the courtyard where guests will be treated to a ‘drinks first, food second’ experience.
Here, dishes served from Sydney’s prized Spice Alley will be matched to a curated drinks list.
Throughout your House of Discovery experience, you’ll also find DJ Flex Mami on the tunes – promising to keep you bopping!
Tickets are $50 and can be purchased via the link below. Be sure to get in quick though to avoid missing out.
