Craving Lebanese eats? Find it at Cubby’s Kitchen in Bondi Beach.
Back in 2016, a cozy Lebanese dining room opened up on Crown Street in Surry Hills. Owned by Toko’s Matt Yazbek, Cubby’s Kitchen was an instant hit for locals looking for delicious yet affordable eats.
But soon, the pop-up closed its doors and moved to the CBD with the launch of a dining room on the corner of Young Street and Loftus Lane in the bustling financial district in 2018. The site still remains open in the city, welcoming diners for lunch and dinner in the heart of the CBD.
But if you’re looking for a taste of Cubby’s Kitchen closer to the eastern suburbs, we’ve got some exciting news for you. The team has just opened a new destination in Bondi slinging share-style Lebanese eats in a relaxed, welcoming dining room.
It’s a true family affair at Cubby’s Kitchen, with the beloved restaurant headed up by Matt and his sister’s Amanda and Diala (along with friend and former NRL player Anthony Watmough).
Finding it’s home in a sought-after spot on Hall Street (the former digs of Blanca), expect a low-fuss yet lively atmosphere perfect for couples and groups, with walk-ins and bookings available. The best bit? It’s BYO-friendly and the kind of spot where you’ll score generous servings of traditional Lebanese dishes (along with a touch of fusion Japanese flavours).
On the menu, don’t miss Cubby’s classics including their Baba Gannoush with eggplant chunks, sweet miso, and burnt sesame. There’s Smoked Labne with pistachio crumbs and pomegranate chili oil as well as Cubby’s Fried Chicken with zaatar and garlic oil.
For something more substantial, don’t miss their Samke Harra, featuring Barramundi with harissa and garlic as well as their traditional Lamb Kafta with mint yogurt and Lebanese spices. Can’t decide what to order? Opt for their Cubby’s Love Banquet, offering a 9-course feast of their signature dishes starting from $56 per person.
