Pyrmont’s Buen Taco, Pop-Up Taqueria Is Now Open For Dine In

Restaurants, Sydney / 15 October 2021

Buen Taco, the pop-up Taqueria inside Quick Brown Fox Eatery is here to stay with a new dine-in option.

Buen Taco was welcomed to Pyrmont’s Union Street during lockdown as a new venture by QBF co-owner Ben Calabro and his partner Anna Mavromatis. The Taqueria offers locals a range of mouthwatering tacos as well as frozen margaritas to keep everyone well fed and boozed up in lockdown.

The dynamic duo thought Buen Taco was a very fitting name. “Buen means good and the tacos are genuinely bloody good. We’ve wanted to launch an evening offering at Quick Brown Fox Eatery for a while now and lockdown spurred us into bringing this takeaway taqueria concept to life. Anna and I are both big fans of tacos and Regan is a master of strong flavours so once we decided on the concept, the menu came together really easily,” said Ben Calabro.

Following a successful run as a pop-up, Buen Taco is now offering taco punters the option to dine in. As QBF shuts up shop at mid-afternoon, Buen Taco will step in from early evening for dining, as well as the usual takeaway. They’ve even got a bunch of new offerings to get you excited about your freedom including a resident DJ every Friday and Saturday night, $23 jugs of red wine sangria and new menu additions. The laneway will be open for alfresco dining in the summer so you can sip frozen margaritas and dunk a taco or three.

Head Chef Regan Bagshaw has created four savoury tacos that will blow your mind. The Baja with crispy Australia flathead, pico de gallo, shaved cabbage and lime crema on a soft tortilla. The zesty tang of the house-made salsa combined with the crunch of the fish makes this taco pop. The Carnitas with pulled pork shoulder, black beans, shaved cabbage, green chilli and pineapple salsa served on a blue corn tortilla. Coated in a house-made rub and slow-cooked for 12 hours, this pulled pork will occupy your dreams. Birria with queso asadero, slow-cooked shredded beef, onion and coriander served on a fried tortilla with dipping broth. The words ‘dipping broth’ should be enough to get you over the line. Tinga with shredded chicken, chipotle, iceberg lettuce and poblano crema served in a hard-shell taco. This is the kind of taco you wish mum had served growing up.

Regan has even got dessert sorted with an Apple Enchilada. Think stewed spiced apples, wrapped in a crunchy toasted
tortilla and topped with a decadent Mexican mole spiced chocolate sauce. You’ll be able to wash it all down with frozen margaritas or Jarrito Mexican soda.

Buen Taco will be offering dine-in, as well as takeaway from Wednesday, 13 October. You can visit Wednesday – Saturday from 5-10pm and there will be a DJ in-house every Friday and Saturday night from 5-8pm. Walk-ins only – run don’t walk! Find out more here
