Champagne Lunch at Black by ezard, The Star

Eat, Restaurants, Sydney / 20 January 2016

Nothing quite beats a long lazy Champagne lunch on the weekend.

Ok, perhaps a long lazy lunch on the weekend with unlimited Champagne. Thus is the case at Black by ezard‘s Champagne Lunch at The Star every Saturday and Sunday. For $125 you can sit back and enjoy three, generous courses while your attentive waiter continues to top up your glass with French Champagne from 12 -3pm.It’s certainly great value, especially for a place that also offers a $13,00 Bordeaux amongst it’s abundant, encyclopaedia style wine list.
For the champagne lunch, take a seat at one of the tables overlooking Pyrmont’s waters edge and select one of four entrees to begin. For something light, try the half dozen oysters with red wine vinegar and shallot dressing or the tomato ox heart salad with buffalo mozzarella, green olives, rye crumbs and white balsamic dressing. For something a little heavier they offer beef tartare or chilled Spencer Gulf prawns served with roasted chilli dressing, avocado, mango, young coconut, basil and salted peanut caramel.

For mains you have three choices including gnocchi, snapper or a generous lamb rack served with roasted Dutch carrots, peas, lettuce and yoghurt mint sauce. For an additional $10 you can order the 30 day dry aged, grain fed 400g angus steak or for an additional $35 the grain fed wagyu MBS 9+ 180g.

Champagne Lunch steak
30 day dry aged rib eye, grain fed, angus 400g, roasted cauliflower and pearl onion salad with gremolata (an extra $10)

Champagne Lunch mac n cheese
Mac & cheese made with three cheese sauce, bacon crumbs $10

Both the entrees and mains are very generous with plenty of accompaniments. But if you feel like sharing a few sides you can’t go wrong with broccolini or buttered potato puree. The mac & cheese is morish but not creamy enough for my liking. Yep, I’m a little fatty.
If you’re a dessert lover you’ve probably seen videos of the chocolate dome dessert at Black by ezard. For those who haven’t, I made a little video for you below. Warm courverture ganache is poured over a chocolate sphere resting on ameretto cookie crumble. Your eyes will light up as you watch it melt away to reveal hazelnut and mascarpone ice cream with cherry gel inside. It’s rich, delicious and very entertaining. Even if you’re not a chocolate lover, get it for the bragging rights.

For something more subtle order the homemade daily selection of sorbet with sable crumble.

Every three months Black by ezard rotate the featured Champagne house. Right now they’re pouring N.V. Perrier Jouet Grand Brut but in a few months you’ll have a new excuse to come back.
