Move over pub classics, there’s a new star in Rozelle!

There’s a new reason to raise a glass in Rozelle. The iconic Red Lion pub, a local landmark for almost two centuries, has undergone a beautiful transformation, welcoming Bistro Red Lion by Manu to its upper level. This exciting collaboration between celebrated chef Manu Feildel and Laundy Hotels brings a touch of Parisian charm to the Inner West, offering a place to bite into delicious French bistro fare in a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Stepping into the Red Lion these days feels like stepping into a different era. The ground-floor pub, meticulously restored, retains its classic charm with exposed sandstone walls, cozy booths, and a welcoming fireplace. Upstairs, however, a new chapter unfolds. Bistro Red Lion by Manu boasts a sophisticated design that seamlessly blends Parisian elegance with contemporary Sydney style. Think linen tablecloths, provincial-style lighting, and a touch of artistry on the walls, all bathed in the soft glow of pendant lamps.

But the true heart of the bistro lies in its food. Here, Manu Feildel returns to his roots, curating a menu that celebrates his passion for good, honest cooking. Forget overly complicated dishes or pretentious plating. At Bistro Red Lion, the focus is on familiar favourites, executed with finesse and flair.

Start your journey with a selection of classic bistro bites. Perhaps some freshly shucked oysters, natural or gratinéed, or a plate of saucisson served with crusty bread. Indulge in a light and airy double-baked Comté cheese soufflé, a dish that promises to tantalize your taste buds.

For the main course, delve into comforting French classics. The Matelote, a rich fish stew featuring Murray cod and mussels, is a must-try for seafood lovers. Meat lovers will rejoice over the chargrilled pork tomahawk or the butcher’s cut of beef, both served with a selection of house-made sauces.

And no French dining experience is complete without a decadent dessert. Here, you’ll find classic options like apple tarte Tatin and a playful take on Crêpes Suzette – flambéed canelés served with vanilla ice cream.

Bistro Red Lion by Manu will open to the public on Friday 12th July, serving lunch and dinner Thursday – Sunday.
