Journey Through Argentina At The ‘Atticus On Fire’ Pop-Up At Esteban

Eat, Sydney / 2 May 2022

Atticus Hospitality Group (Tequila Mockingbird & Esteban) are opening a new venue later this year…be the first to taste some of their new dishes.

If you call yourself a foodie there’s a good chance you’ve spent a weekend sipping margaritas and eating tacos at either Tequila Mockingbird in Paddington or Esteban in the CBD’s Temperance Lane. Director of Atticus Hospitality, Michael Fegent took inspiration for these two venues from his culinary exploration through South America. Tequila Mockingbird brings the buzzy atmosphere and robust flavours from different regions of Latin America while Esteban offers a more authentic Mexican street-food experience, courtesy of the traditional Parrilla Grill fired up in the kitchen. Six years later, Fegent is ready to turn his attention to Argentinian cuisine with a new multi-storey restaurant coming soon to Balmain.

Although the doors won’t open until later this year, you can get a taste of what’s to come at the ‘Atticus On Fire’ pop-up happening this May at Esteban. Group Executive Chef John Frid and Tequila Mockingbird Head Chef Will Quartel have joined forces under the name ‘WillFrid’. Each week a limited number of guests can experience the very best Argentinian flavours brought to life with premium Australian produce. The pop-up will run for five exclusive sessions where each guest will be asked to review the dishes and their overall experience through a QR code. Have a say about this new Sydney venue before anyone else, including us!

Over 4-courses you will taste a minimum of 8 dishes, guaranteeing you won’t go home hungry. With Parrilla Grills at the heart of Argentinian cooking, expect to taste an array of chargrilled meats, kissed by woodsmoke and flames. Their bartenders have also put together a selection of the best Argentinian wines and classic cocktails on the night for an additional cost.

The menu for the first session on Monday, 9th of May has been revealed already. From Scallop Ceviche with gremolata and crunchy sourdough, Baked Lamb Empanadas with mint chimichurri and Local Duck Breast with fire-roasted grapes, to Wagyu Rump Cap with spicy chorizo and chimichurri and Baked Anchi with lemon, charred peaches and white peach sorbet. The dinners are $105pp and each week the menu will be different so you to visit multiple times.

There are limited seatings available at this exclusive tasting so we suggest booking in quickly. You must also make your booking the Friday before each session.

There are spaces on Monday the 9th of May from 5:30-6:30pm, and Monday the 16th and 23rd of May from 5:30pm – 6:15pm and 8pm – 8:30pm.
