Aroma of Indonesia is Sydney CBD’s First Premium Indonesian

/ 28 October 2025

Sydney finally has its first premium Indonesian restaurant, and it’s a game-changer.

Aroma of Indonesia has opened on Clarence Street, helmed by husband and wife chefs Nessiana Pamudji and Ferry Tshai, whose impressive credentials include stints at China Doll and Billy Kwong.

The duo previously won hearts with their beloved Kent Street spot The Sambal, but Aroma represents a serious step up. This is refined Indonesian dining that goes far beyond the usual suspects, showcasing the incredible diversity of the archipelago’s cuisine.

The standout has to be their Rendang featuring premium Australian Full Blood Wagyu beef slow-cooked in aromatic spicy curry gravy. It’s a sophisticated take on the Padang classic that’ll have you rethinking everything you thought you knew about Indonesian food.
