Turn left into Angel Place off George Street, and you could be forgiven for thinking you’re entering a dead zone. The street appears empty, whilst the backs of bars and restaurants hum in the distance.
Open any ‘back door’ however, and you’ll discover a collection of hot restaurants and bars that thrive on their not-so-secret secret location. Angel & Ash (on the corner of Angel Place and Ash St) is a new event space launched by Stix Catering. It’s inspired by the New York loft function spaces that embody the character of the city.
At Thursday evening’s launch, the Bollinger flowed as guests mingled and positioned themselves to maximise their access to the scarce but tasty canapés that showcased the best of what Stix has to offer. Stix Catering’s friendly David Allison popped over to describe their plans for the venue, located in a heritage-listed sandstone building.
Currently available for corporate functions and large personal celebrations, the space will be transformed into Gramercy restaurant in December 2013. As part of the emerging trend to bring Sydney’s underused CBD to life, Angel & Ash is a welcome addition to the mix.
