Melbourne’s cultural scene is set to sparkle this winter with the return of the RISING festival.

From June 1st to 16th, the city transforms into a vibrant hub of art, music, and performance. This year, RISING 2024 spreads its creative wings along Swanston Street and beyond, promising a unique urban adventure.

Melbourne CBD Reimagined

Over three thrilling weekends, Melbourne’s historic arcades and hidden alleys come to life. The Melbourne Town Hall will be the heart of festivities, showcasing a mix of contemporary music, theatre, and dance. Co-artistic directors Hannah Fox and Gideon Obarzanek aim to create a space for excitement and reflection, capturing Melbourne’s diverse spirit. Echoing their enthusiasm, Minister Steve Dimopoulos highlights RISING’s role in invigorating the city’s winter mood and drawing in visitors.

Diverse Cultural Showcases

RISING 2024 offers a fresh perspective on Melbourne, turning landmarks and lesser-known spots into stages for artistic expression. Fed Square transforms into a forum for First Peoples’ art, with Richard Bell’s thought-provoking EMBASSY installation and immersive projections. The festival also sees the return of The Rivers Sing, blending natural and human sounds along the Birrarung. Additionally, the Australian-exclusive premiere by SHOUSE and the artistic flair of the Melbourne Art Trams project enrich the city’s cultural landscape.

Eclectic Musical Lineup

From local legends like the Dirty Three to global stars such as Fever Ray, RISING’s music program is a testament to Melbourne’s varied tastes. Yasiin Bey’s special performance stands out, alongside a lineup that spans genres and borders, offering something for every music enthusiast.

Innovative Performances

The festival’s theatre and dance offerings challenge and entertain. Highlights include Big Name No Blankets, a tribute to the Warumpi Band, and FOOD, a unique take on dining and history. The dreamy dance opera Arkadia and the groundbreaking Cadela Força Trilogy further showcase RISING’s commitment to pushing artistic boundaries.
