Pirate Life has docked in South Melbourne, bringing with it a wave of excitement for food and beer enthusiasts. The renowned South Australian brewery has expanded its horizons with the opening of its latest venue on Market Street. Transforming a former mechanic’s garage into a hotspot for quality produce and lively hospitality.

The Fourth Venue

Pirate Life South Melbourne marks a significant milestone as the brand’s fourth venue and its inaugural venture in Victoria. Co-founder Jack Cameron shares the enthusiasm surrounding the venue’s launch, highlighting the location’s dynamic atmosphere and Pirate Life’s commitment to hospitality and inclusivity. This new venture promises a good time for all, with a special focus on shared meals and exceptional drinks.

EAT: Culinary Diversity on Display

Heading the kitchen are Maria Delengas and Nicolas Lopez. Their backgrounds in South American and Greek cuisine influence a menu that pays homage to Melbourne’s cultural melting pot. Sourced primarily from the local South Melbourne Market, the offerings are a testament to the city’s diverse culinary landscape. From the pickled octopus carpaccio to smoked goat spring rolls and a unique take on desserts like burnt butter kataifi, the menu is a journey through flavours and traditions.

DRINK: Beer and Beyond

Not just a place to eat, Pirate Life South Melbourne serves as a shrine to the art of beer making. With a tap list that includes core favourites and inventive brews like the Vanilla Malt Thickshake IPA, the venue offers something for every palate. A venue-exclusive ‘Market Street Lager’ and direct shipments from the brewery ensure freshness and quality. Matty O’Callaghan, Pirate Life’s brand experience manager, emphasises the personal touch in beer selection, aiming to enhance the dining experience with perfectly paired brews.

PLAY: Design and Culture Intersect

Studio Gram, the architectural firm behind the venue’s design, has preserved the building’s original charm while infusing it with industrial and botanical elements. The space is a celebration of craftsmanship and style, from exposed brickwork to polished concrete. Pirate Life’s dedication to culture extends to art collaborations and live music, promising a calendar filled with events that mirror the brand’s creative spirit.
