Rutherglen Winemakers are bringing their vino to you at this cool pop-up wine bar.
Do you find yourself yearning for a weekend getaway to the vineyards, filled with endless wining and dining? If time simply doesn’t allow, fret not, as the talented Winemakers of Rutherglen are set to bring a slice of historic Victoria along with its enticing wines to the heart of the city. This pop-up wine bar, aptly titled ‘Rutherglen in the City’ is set to land in Melbourne’s CBD, kicking off from Friday 25 August to Sunday 27 August.
This once-off, three day event will bring the essence and wines of the iconic Rutherglen wine region to The Strand Melbourne’s Driver Lane and provide Melburnians with the opportunity to taste and learn all there is to know about the region’s unique wine varietals and the winemakers themselves.
Capturing the true Rutherglen feeling, Driver Lane will be transformed into a winter wonderland wine bar complete with glistening fairy lights, wine barrels, Australian foliage, communal furniture, acoustic tunes and a mock cellar door.
Fancy yourself a vino aficionado? Melbourne wine enthusiasts will also have the chance to meet and chat with the winemakers face-to-face. If that wasn’t enough you’ll also get to sample a broad selection of wines, before indulging in some of the region’s best offerings.
Melburnians will also discover Durif and Muscat – two distinct varietals that flourish in the Rutherglen soils and represent both the region’s tradition and innovation. Revered world-wide for its fortified wines, the Winemakers of Rutherglen are experimenting with Muscat and trying new ways to serve the fortified wine. Muscat cocktails are on the cards, including Muscat Coolers, Muscat Sangria and Muscat Espresso Martinis (this is Melbourne and we drink coffee in everything!).
The Winemakers of Rutherglen represent a collective of 19 wineries from one of Australia’s most historic and iconic wine regions, boasting more than 150 years of winemaking history.
