As Melbourne’s food scene continues to thrive, fans of authentic Mexican cuisine have something to celebrate.

The popular La Cabra, renowned for blending traditional Mexican flavours with a contemporary twist, is set to open two new locations this June. The first is scheduled for Mornington on June 14, followed by South Yarra on June 29.

La Cabra, the brainchild of Victorian locals Joshua Smith, Derrick Chandra and Sherinder Kohli, first made waves in 2019. Their venture, whimsically dubbed the ‘three Amigos’, has since grown into a beloved dining destination for Melburnians, offering a tantalizing menu that spans classic Mexican staples to creative culinary experiments.

In both new locations, patrons can anticipate enjoying fan favourites like Stuffed Jalapenos, Cauliflower Hot Wings, and an assortment of mouth-watering La Cabra Tacos. The eatery’s opening weeks will be especially tempting, with an irresistible offer of $5 tacos and buy-one-get-one-free margaritas.

Co-founder and Head Chef Derrick Chandra’s passion for the brand is palpable. “We’re excited to continue sharing the La Cabra fare with Melburnians,” he said. “Our close collaboration with local suppliers has been instrumental in creating dishes that truly resonate with the essence of Mexican cuisine.”

But the appeal of La Cabra extends beyond its food. The eatery’s beverage selection offers a thoughtful blend of innovative cocktails and traditional Mexican staples, designed to complement the vibrant food menu. The option of a tequila three-shot paddle will surely entice those looking to delve deeper into Mexico’s favourite spirit.

Co-founder Joshua Smith added, “The drinks are inspired by a combination of keeping up with the creativity of modern Melbourne bar influence, whilst also sticking to the Mexican classics that we all love.”
