Celebrate in true Newtown style this December with live music, cold tinnies, and local eats – all for a good cause.
Newtown locals and longtime partners-in-crime Young Henrys and The Courty are kicking off summer with an epic Newtown Street Party on Eliza Street. On Saturday 7th December, the block will buzz with live music, food stalls, and cold tinnies to celebrate all things Inner West. Entry is free, with optional donations benefiting the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre.
From 1-8pm, the Newtown Street Party will feature a dynamic lineup of Aussie talent across indie, rock, soul, and alt-country genres. Local headliners Caitlin Hartnett and the Pony Boys will take the stage alongside psychedelic outfit Velvet Trip, and even Murray Cook (yes, the original Red Wiggle) will spin a special DJ set. Other acts include Sydney’s Good Pash, The Melodrones, The Soul Movers, indie singer Maia Toakley, and Johnny Cash tribute band JJ Geary and the Tennessee Three, with even more performers yet to be revealed.
For food and drink, Young Henrys will be pouring Newtowner (celebrating its 13th year!), while neighbourhood favourites like The Bank Hotel, Public House Petersham, and The Courty will offer bites like porchetta rolls, woodfired pizzas, and hearty burgers. Eliza Street will be transformed with pop-up bars and food stalls, extending the party into The Courty’s beer garden for that classic Newtown vibe.
Anne Kessler, GM at The Courty, shared her excitement, noting, “Each year, the turnout and community spirit just amaze us, and this year we’re aiming even higher.” Young Henrys co-founder Oscar McMahon echoed the sentiment, adding, “This is all about celebrating the heart of our backyard with good mates, good music, and great beers.”
Mark your calendars for this free community event set to draw over 5,000 attendees for a day filled with local love, music, and memories.
