Harbourside winters are far from boring – Sydney’s August is bustling with exciting events.

Winter has settled in well, but Sydney is far from hibernating. August promises a blend of food, drink, and entertainment in the harbour city. So bundle up and explore what’s on in Sydney for the last month of winter.

South Eveleigh Winter Series – Throughout August

South Eveleigh’s Locomotive Street has been transformed into a hub of delicious pleasures and entertainment for the South Eveleigh Winter Series. From Indonesian and Thai cuisine to artisanal gelato, all sorts of cravings can be satisfied with a visit. There’s a silent cinema every Saturday throughout the month featuring two movie sessions from 5.30pm. In the first session, a kids-only film, parents can drop their children off at the cinema with professional childcare minders, and explore South Eveleigh and child-free with a meal or a drink. Free Burgers at Will’s – Until 31st August

Drop into Will’s in Coogee from Wed-Sun throughout August to grab a complimentary Will’s cheeseburger when you purchase any drink over $10. This delicious Oklahoma-style cheeseburger is made with Coppertree Farms wagyu beef, a cream cheese bun, pickles & mustard. How good! Kiln X Alberta’s – Thursday 1st August

Kiln has announced a new collaborative chef series kicking off this August. ‘Taste Buds’ will begin on 1st August with a one-night-only dinner featuring Ben Ing (former head chef of Copenhagen’s legendary Noma) and Kristy Marchant (former head gardener of Noma). These two are the power couple behind the acclaimed Busselton restaurant Alberta’s and have worked alongside Kiln’s Mitch Orr to create a bespoke five-course menu. Expect a focus on hyper-seasonal produce, cooked simply with bold, umami flavours. To top it off, leading bartenders Evan Stroeve (Rhubi Mistelle) and Nick Tesar (Four Pillars Gin) have collaborated on a cocktail menu, featuring their award-winning skills (both Diageo World Class Australian Bartender of the Year winners!). Astronomy Nights at Aster – Every Thursday from 8th August

Aster, InterContinental Sydney’s rooftop bar, is hosting a series of ‘Astronomy Nights’ throughout August. Guests will enjoy an evening of stargazing guided by astrophysicist Dr Ángel Lopez-Sanchez, alongside canapés, a main course, and cocktails. The experience includes champagne on arrival, star maps, and blankets for cosy stargazing. Set against Sydney’s stunning skyline, the experience is a perfect blend of astronomy, gastronomy, and ambience. The menu features dishes like braised Angus short ribs and a galactic garden, complemented by astronomy-themed cocktails such as the ‘Galactic’. Darling Pavilion’s 1st Birthday Bottomless Lunch – Saturday 17th August

Darling Pavilion landed in Darling Quarter last year and quickly became a neighbourhood fave for post-work drinks, family dinners, and boozy lunches. To commemorate turning one, they’re throwing a one-day-only birthday brunch. Byron Bay’s much-loved Bar Heather is making a one-off trip to Sydney this August. The restaurant will be taking over Surry Hills’ White Horse for two nights only, Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th. Bar Heather co-founders James Audas and Tom Sheer will be working with their Head Chef Ollie Wong-Hee to create an exclusive nine-dish banquet. George St. Deli has opened its second location in Surry Hills. To celebrate this Saturday, August 31st, they are giving away 100 free cookies and coffees!
